During the Birmingham City Council Meeting held Tuesday, August 6, 2013, Council:

1. Referred to the Budget and Finance Committee a Resolution to adopt the Personnel Board of Jefferson County 2012-2013 Annual Classification and Compensation Survey. For more information, contact the office of Councilor Steven Hoyt at 254.2304.

2. Approved a Resolution regarding bond funds to be appropriated for the renovation, designing, construction, improving, reconstructing, and furnishing of designated park and recreation buildings and facilities in the City of Birmingham. 3. Approved a resolution seeking an Attorney General’s opinion on the action or non-action of the Mayor relative to his failure to submit the Council’s balanced budget to the Council Agenda in adherence to Section 5.09 of the Mayor-Council Act. Announcements and Reminders: 

1. The Education Committee meeting scheduled for today, August 6, 2013, was canceled. 

2. The Special Called Public Improvement Committee meeting scheduled for today, August 6, 2013, was canceled.

4. The Transportation and Communication Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, 12:30 p.m., Conference Room D.

5. The Joint Public Safety and Technology Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, 2:00 p.m., Council Chambers.

6. Councilor Maxine Herring Parker will host the District4 Jazz on the Patio, on Sunday, August 11, 2013, 5-8 p.m., at the Brownsville Height Recreation Center, 9225 Airport Road.

7. After careful thought, consideration and many discussions, the Birmingham City Council has selected five (5) people to induct into the Gallery of Distinguished Citizens. The highest honor that only the Birmingham City Council can bestow, the 2009 – 2013 honorees represent a gamut of phenomenal women and men. A reception and ceremony, to unveil the bronze bas-relief plaques of the inductees, is August 13, 2013, 5:30 p.m., at the Museum of Art, Steiner Auditorium. For more information, call 254.2294.

8. Fifty: The Documentary presented by the Birmingham City Council will premiere on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at the historic 16th Street Baptist Church, 1530 6th Avenue N. The event is open to the public and will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. at the Civil Rights Institute. Fifty: The Documentary is a unique discussion and conversation about the change of government in Birmingham from a commission form to the current mayor-council for of government.
