Birmingham is still commemorating the 50th Anniversary of 1963 – a pivotal year in the city’s history and the civil rights movement.  The eyes of the world are ‘still’ on the city.

Visitors are here taking in the old, but more the new. And, people are still exploring the history of the city, the state and the world.

Here are a few more things going on…

TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY – THIS WEEKEND….Friday through Sunday.
There will be plenty going on the Fastest and Most competitive track in the world – Talladega Superspeedway.  If you are at the race on Saturday don’t miss the autograph signing session at 2:15 p.m. with all the fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.   Alabama’s own Darrell Wallace, Jr. is in the race this year. He was a part of the Drive for Diversity Program.  And for the girls, Jennifer Jo Cobb.  Drivers Jeb Burton, Timothy Peters and Darrell Wallace Jr. (ranked fourth, sixth and ninth in the points standings, respectively) both recently participated in a tree planting event in Birmingham, Ala. to help promote the upcoming truck race at Talladega as well as the NASCAR Green initiative. “One of the often overlooked highlights of the fall race weekend is the truck series autograph session, where fans get the chance to be face to face with some of NASCAR’s future stars,” said Talladega Superspeedway Chairman Grant Lynch. “The drivers of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series are all very down to earth people who love getting to interact with fans on a personal level. Fans who are here on Friday do not want to miss this chance to get some autographs.”

The most competitive racing in NASCAR combined with a mix of southern hospitality returns to Talladega Superspeedway October 18-20, 2013 for the Camping World RV Sales 500 Weekend, which also features the fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. For tickets and information visit www.talladegasuperspeedway.com or call 1-877-Go2-DEGA.

NASCAR 2013 at Talladega Superspeedway – Talladega’s legendary fall race in 2014 will be much like this weekend’s Camping World RV Sales 500 – the sixth race in the Sprint Cup Series Chase for the Championship. The weekend will feature the fred’s 250 Camping World Truck Series race and the Talladega 500 – the “Wild Card” Sprint Cup Series event in the stretch run for the title.  NASCAR released its 2014 schedule recently and Talladega Superspeedway will host the greatest drivers in world on May 2-4 during the Aaron’s Dream Weekend for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series, as well as October 17-19 for the Sprint Cup Series and Camping World Truck Series.   Look for more right here in the Birmingham Times.
