Oftentimes,  I am sent books that offer insightful information. One of such is Any Given Monday: Sports Injuries and How to Prevent Them for Athletes, Parents, and Coaches-Based on My Life in Sports Medicine. Written by Dr. James R. Andrews with Don Yeager, Any Given Monday is a much needed medical reference that should be a part of all parents libraries. It is also now in paperback.
We are living in an age where children’s games are often electronic in nature. This leads to surprising numbers of obesity in youth. To combat this, parents, in conjunction with local schools, have revved up their physical education programs by offering a number of sports activities in their curriculum. In order to guarantee the optimum in safety while children participate in sport theme activities,  coaches, staff and parents should be educated on the proper techniques in preventing injuries and treating them. This factor alone facilitates the need for Dr. Andrews’ book.
There are numerous topics addressed in Any Given Monday. They include: Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine Future, Warm up Exercises, Myths and Concussions. Additionally, there is a listing of sports (cheerleading, football, dance, rowing, etc.), the injury it could possibly cause and how to prevent it. Proper fitting safety gear, conditioning, overuse/overtrain injuries and a plethora of other are covered in laymen’s terms. Drawing off of Dr. Andrews’ years of practice by providing sound advice, recommendations and specific suggestions, Any Given Monday is the go-to tool for sports injury prevention.
