Moorer Named Interim Director of Athletics at Stillman College

coach-cassandra-moorer TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Stillman College President Dr. Peter Edmund Millet has appointed Cassandra “CC” Moorer as the College’s interim director of athletics effective Aug. 26. Moorer replaces Paul Bryant who accepted the position of Director of Athletics at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, S.C. Bryant’s last day was Aug. 22.
“Coach Moorer has served the College as our Head Women’s Basketball Coach and has shown great leadership, commitment and dedication. Her tenure as Interim Director will mark the Stillman history books as the first female athletic director of the College. She is poised to continue taking our athletics program to new heights,” said Millet.
Moorer is in her fifth year with the Lady Tigers basketball team and has brought an extensive background to her coaching and leadership style. Prior to her arrival at Stillman, she was an assistant coach at the University of Alabama (1997-2005) and the University of Houston (1985-1986). In 1996, she was drafted by the Women’s National Basketball Association’s New York Liberty and played professionally in Europe from 1986-1994. She is a 1985 graduate of the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Crimson Tide’s Lady Basketball team. During her time at the capstone, “CC” became the first All-American in UA history and was honored as an SEC great in 2009. In addition, she coached four years at American Christian Academy (ACA) winning four area championships.
“I am honored to serve the Stillman community as Interim Athletic Director. Our coaches, staff and student-athletes are superior and I look forward to collaborative efforts as we move forward. My commitment during this transition will be a wholeheartedly rewarding and gratifying experience for all facets of our athletic program,” said Moorer.
As the Interim Director, Moorer will be responsible for the management of Stillman’s 12 intercollegiate athletic programs including the supervision of sports programs, fundraising, personnel management, strategic planning, fiscal allocation and complying with all College, State, Division II level Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) policies. In addition, she will provide leadership in supporting the academic success of all student-athletes, diversity, gender equity and student-athlete welfare. The Stillman Athletics department consists of 200+ student-athletes participating in 12 intercollegiate athletic programs (6 women and 6 men) including Football, Basketball, Baseball, Volleyball, Cross Country, Track & Field and Tennis.
