Foster ParentsFree training classes beginning January 6
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Youth Villages is currently in need of caring adults in Birmingham and the surrounding areas to open their hearts and homes to children in need of a foster family this winter. These vulnerable children need families who will care for them until it is possible for them to return to their birth families or until an adoptive family is found for them. Many of these children may be dealing with emotional or behavioral issues, or may have suffered abuse, neglect or abandonment.
Foster parents provide children with a safe, comfortable environment and monitor their emotional growth, school progress and physical health. They also serve as positive role models to children who may lack caring adults in their lives.
Youth Villages provides free training for those interested in becoming foster parents. The next training session will begin January 6 at 6 p.m. at the Youth Villages office, located at 600 Beacon Pkwy. W. Suite 800 in Birmingham.
In addition, Youth Villages offers continuous support for foster parents, including 24-hour access to counselors, support groups and a monthly stipend to offset the cost of adding a child to the home. Foster parents also often have the first right to adopt if the child becomes available for adoption.
