Alabama Business Charitable Trust provides Efficiency Forward grants

The Alabama Business Charitable (ABC) Trust Fund has awarded Efficiency Forward grants totaling more than $75,000 to eight organizations across the state. The Efficiency Forward program provides grants to nonprofits to make energy efficiency improvements to their facilities. The improvements help provide cost savings that nonprofits can pass on in services to their clients.

The organizations awarded:

Alabama Teen Challenge

Greater Birmingham Habitat for Humanity

Boys Club of Sylacauga

Soles4Souls Inc.

Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Alabama

Crisis Center of Russell County

Turning Point Foundation Rural Studio.

Since its start in 2007, the program has provided more than $1.2 million in support through 140 grants.

“Efficiency Forward is designed to help nonprofits reduce their energy costs, so they can devote more of their resources to helping those in need,” said Myla Calhoun, ABC Trust executive director. “We’re excited to assist these organizations to help them do what they do best for our communities.”

The ABC Trust Fund was created in 1992 by Alabama Power to partner with agencies to help low-income families pay their energy bills. It also supports programs that promote energy efficiency for nonprofits and low-income individuals and families.

Corporate and institutional giving in the Birmingham metro area and throughout the Southeast.

The Alabama Power Foundation. Created in 1989 with funds donated by Alabama Power shareholders, this group’s assets have grown to more than $140 million. Income earned from those funds is used to support a variety of grants and initiatives across Alabama.

The BBVA Compass Foundation. This group focuses on six key areas: community development, including financial literacy; education; health and human services; arts and culture; environment and natural resources; diversity and inclusion.

The Caring Foundation (TCF) of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. This organization was established in 1990 to serve as a corporate charitable foundation for philanthropic needs within the state. In 2015, the TCF donated more than $5.3 million statewide to nearly 500 charitable organizations in support of health and education initiatives.

The Daniel Foundation of Alabama. Founded in 1978, the Daniel Foundation remains a viable presence in the philanthropic community of Alabama, supporting educational, health, humanitarian, and cultural activities in Birmingham and throughout the state.

The Protective Life Foundation. This group’s objectives: contribute to the welfare and quality of life of the local community; be a corporate leader and a pacesetter in giving; work in partnership with other organizations, corporations and individuals to find solutions for difficult human and economic situations.

Regions Financial Corp. This organization seeks projects that contribute to small-business growth, job creation, financial education, safe and affordable housing, and volunteerism.
