**LIVING COLOUR, at Iron City , 7 p.m.  Living Colour is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 1984. Stylistically, the band’s music is a creative fusion influenced by heavy metal, funk, jazz, hip hop, country, and alternative rock. Their lyrics range from the personal to the political, in some of the latter cases attacking Eurocentrism and racism in America.

**THE DIRTY LUNGS performs Saturday, at the Nick.  It is a heavyish garage-ish psych rock from Birmingham, Alabama. If you’ve spent any time in Birmingham, Alabama, you’ve seen a Dirty Lungs sticker slapped on something. Though the city’s musical landscape has changed dramatically since the band formed in 2006, the Dirty Lungs are still standing–and they’re just as gritty and focused as ever.  Several tours and member changes have contributed to the constant evolution of their sound.  There is Carson Mitchell = Junk, Vox,  Ra-jaan Parmely = Drum Set and Justin Ward = Bass, Vox, dudes.

The Dirty Lungs.

**NONAME, 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Saturn.  NoName (born Fatimah Warner) is an American artist from Chicago, Illinois, who blurs the lines of poetry and rap through the music she creates.  NoName grew up in Bronzeville, a historic neighborhood on the southside of Chicago that famously attracted accomplished black artists and intellectuals of all types. NoName discovered her love for words while taking a creative writing class as a sophmore in high school and became enamored with poetry and spoken word, pouring over Def Poetry Jam clips on YouTube and attending open mics around the city.  When she was just a senior in high school, she placed third in “Louder Than A Bomb”, a poetry competition with 120 Chicago high schools in participation. She remained connected with the artists she met at YouMedia and in 2013, her verse on Chance the Rappers “Lost” attracted the beginning of her large fan base, most of whom have been following her every move since. NoName has been hailed by The FADER, Complex, and Rolling Stone as one of the most exciting and important new artists of 2016.  NoName played some shows in support of Ms. Lauryn Hill, who handpicked Noname to open for her on tour. When first approaching the project, NoName set out to emulate the feeling of talking on the phone with someone for the first time. She describes her piece Telefone as “an introductory conversation with someone you’re interested in”.

FOR OUTDOOR LOVERS

**SATURDAY DAYHIKE, 8 a.m. – Southeastern Outings Moderately Easy Dayhike, Alum Hollow on Green Mountain, Nature Trail also on Green Mountain, and Monte Sano State Park–all in the Huntsville, AL Area –

DETAILS: The first adventure of the day …hiking Alum Hollow Trail. Sitting atop Green Mountain in Huntsville, Alum Hollow Trail just opened to the public in the spring of 2016 and is on property donated to the Land Trust of North Alabama. The mile long trail (one-way) is an easy stroll through light woods, ending at two waterfalls. The last hundred feet of the trail down to the waterfalls is steep but very walkable with time and careful footing.  If you wish to not walk down to the falls, there is an area where you can sit and wait for those who do go down. While waiting, you can explore a rock overhang that possibly served as shelter for Native Americans. This hike is rated easy to moderate based on the last hundred feet.

After the hike at Alum Hollow, a picnic lunch on the Madison County Nature Trail on Green Mountain. Sit amongst the trees in the picnic grounds and enjoy the view of a covered bridge across the lake.  There are restrooms and a pretty setting.  From Green Mountain, travel to Monte Sano State Park, parking in the hiker’s parking lot. Then, hike the South Plat and Mountain Mist Trails. The flat South Plat Trail will lead  to O’Shaughnessy Point to enjoy the view from the overlook. Take in the quiet of a fall forest on top of the mountain and be treated to beautiful fall colors. From O’Shaughnessy Point, descend the side of the mountain on the Mountain Mist Trail. Remember, what goes down must come up, and we do the up in a shorter distance than the down. Follow along the base of the bluff with gorgeous rock faces on the left and a view of the fall forest floor to our right. This 3 to 4-mile hike is moderate mainly based on length.  Wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather.  Bring water, snacks, a picnic lunch, hiking poles if you use them and Monte Sano Park entrance fee.  Optional dinner at a Huntsville restaurant, after the hike.  Well-behaved, properly supervised children age 8 and over are welcome.    Depart 8 a.m. from the Hayden/Corner Park and Ride or 9:30 a.m. from the Wendy’s in Valley Bend at Jones Valley, 2742 Carl T. Jones Drive, Huntsville, Alabama.  Park in the shopping center lot, next to the Wendy’s parking lot. Use the restrooms in the Target at the same shopping center before hike.   For more info, contact Barbara Kammerud at bjkamm@gmail.com or (256) 536-7074

**SUNDAY DAYHIKE, 1 p.m.  Southeastern Outings Second Sunday Dayhike in Oak Mountain State Park – DETAILS: Enjoy a moderate 4 mile walk in the woodlands near Birmingham.  This is an excellent outing for introducing your friends to Southeastern Outings and for making new friends who enjoy the outdoors.  Parts of this hike may be off the color-coded trails.  There will be some ups and downs.  Well-behaved, properly supervised children age eight and up able to walk the distance of about 4 miles and complete the hike are welcome.  Share an adventure!  Bring a friend.  Optional dinner after the hike.  Depart  p.m. from the Oak Mountain Park office parking lot.   Bring park admission fee plus your drink.   For more info, contact Edd Spencer, (205) 317-5868.

AT THE STARDOME

Sir Walt.

**THURSDAY NIGHT: SIR WALT. Birmingham’s Funniest Comedian is coming to his hometome stage. You’ve seen Sir Walt tear up the stage on BET’s Comic View, Starz’s First Amendment and P Diddy’s Bad Boy’s of Comedy as well as clubs and colleges all over the Southeast. His high-energy style and dynamic stage presence keeps audience cheering night after night. He is one of the Stardome’s Favorites so make your plans today.

**THIS WEEKEND: COMEDIAN GODFREY. Godfrey is one of the hottest comedians on the circuit. Growing up in Chicago, he constantly got in trouble for misbehaving and being an all around class clown. Godfrey’s Nigerian parents unknowingly encouraged his bad behavior by showing him classic comedy films from an early age.  While performing impressions of his college football teammates, Godfrey realized his irreverent style of comedy might be more than just a hobby. As soon as Godfrey went pro, he immediately landed several high profile projects. Ben Stiller cast him to play himself in “Zoolander,” a performance that has since achieved cult status. Godfrey’s more recent film roles in “Johnson Family Vacation,” “The Cook Out” with Queen Latifah, “Phat Girlz” starring Monique, and “Soul Plane,” alongside Snoop Dogg. Godfrey is perhaps best known for his stint as the “7UP Guy” in the beloved 7UP national campaign.  Godfrey has also made many television appearances including performing on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and recently starred in his own one hour special for Comedy Central, “Godfrey: Black By Accident.”
