After playing two consecutive teams (Alcorn State and Alabama A&M) from the Southwestern Athletic Conference, Miles College will host Edward Waters (0-0, 1-1) on Saturday, Sept. 12. This will be the Golden Bears’ (0-0, 0-2) season opener in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
Miles College faced some stiff competition from the SWAC the last two weeks. The Golden Bears are coming off a 38-23 loss to Alabama A&M last week where they put together a solid effort in the second half of the contest.
Miles College quarterback Brinley Vandiver should be a player to watch in this matchup. Vandiver has the ability to throw the ball down the field. He also has the quickness to make some big plays with his legs.
In other SIAC action, Tuskegee University (1-0, 1-1) will have the week off following the team’s 24-23 win over Fort Valley State. The Golden Tigers will return to action against Jackson State on Sept. 19.
Around the SWAC, Alabama State (0-0, 2-0) will visit Troy University (0-0, 1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 12. The kickoff is set for 3 p.m. The Hornets will depend on quarterback Andrew Body and wide receivers Kareem Keye and Randall King to move the ball through the air. Running back Jamarie Hostzclaw will lead the ground attack for ASU.
Alabama A&M (0-0, 1-1) will entertain Tennessee State (0-2, 0-0) on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. in The Legacy Series. The Bulldogs have a stellar defense led by cornerback Jeremiah Hudson-Davis and defensive lineman Kylon Roberts. TSU is capable of moving the football offensively. The Bulldogs’ defense could be a key factor in this contest.
