Bush Hills holds inaugural gala to build healthy community

The Neighbors of Bush Hills held their recent Inaugural Holiday Gala at the Birmingham-Southern College in the Norton Campus Center.

Those in attendance included Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, City Councilor Steven Hoyt and School Board Member Sonja Smith, who represent District 8, respectively, and Walladean Streeter, Bush Hills Neighborhood Association President.

The gala is part of a long-term initiative to revitalize the Bush Hills neighborhood.

“Building a healthy competitive neighborhood starts with building strong relationships within the neighborhood and with partners,” said Joanice Thompson, Connection Chair.

The Bush Hills Neighborhood Association Connection Committee exists to form partnerships and connections to advance the objective of revitalizing Bush Hills neighborhood.

The Inaugural Gala Committee members were Thompson, Streeter, Waylon Pickens, April M. Williams, Candice Gaines, Carol Clarke, Beverly Lewis, Todd Taylor, and Miquel Scott.

Other Focus Efforts of the Neighbors of Bush Hills include: acquire a Neighborhood Improvement Plan for Bush Hills; a Community Garden Project at Woodrow Wilson School and strengthening Bush Hills Academy (BHA): Making BHA a “Healthy Competitive School of Choice” among many others.
