I am..

I once heard John Gray say, “When Jesus comes, everything that He is comes with Him.” I love that because so often, we think we know what we need, when in actuality, we don’t know at all. We make a judgment call based on what we see, but as believers, sight can sometimes be our greatest hindrance. The landscape of our lives can be as unpredictable as the seasons. One minute we are praying for one thing, the next minute a greater need is revealed and thus, our prayer changes. That was the reality in John 11. You know the story. Lazarus, the one Jesus loved, was sick. His sisters, Mary and Martha, sent for Jesus. After being only a couple of miles away, Jesus arrived four days later to find Lazarus dead and buried.

Mary and Martha sent for the Healer.

Past experiences had to have proven Him to be a healer or they would have never asked Him to come. But now, as they mourned the death of their brother, Jesus’ arrival seemed uneventful.  If only He had come when they called! And although Martha understood that Jesus would come again and Lazarus would “meet Him in the air,” that did not rectify the issue of Jesus’ delay leading to Lazarus’ death.

But I am so glad that in the book of Exodus, God revealed Himself to Moses (and us) as I AM THAT I AM!

This means that when we call on the name Jesus, our Protector emerges. Our Provider appears. Our Shepherd takes the lead. Our Way Maker comes on the scene. Our Peace arrives. Our Joy comes. Our Strength is renewed. Our Lord, Our Savior, Our King shows up!

Today, no matter what your situation looks like, call on the great I AM! He is everything you need and more. Stop trying to figure it out. Stop calling friends and experts for their opinions when the only who is all knowing and all powerful is our God.

Mary and Martha sent for the right One. Although when He arrived, the situation had changed, Jesus still was the right One because as John Gray put it, “When Jesus comes, everything that He is comes with Him.”
