Keith “Fig” Newton, a native of New Orleans, graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1975. Then, he completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 1982.
In 1982 Keith interned in the Sports Department at WDSU television in New Orleans. He was mentored for the most part by Romalice (Ro) Brown and Ed Daniels. Sports Director Buddy Diliberto and assistant Director Vince Marinello were also tremendous influences.
1983-1986 Keith was named Sports Director of WYLD-FM and AM radio in New Orleans. He worked very closely with News Directors Warren Bell and then later Monica Pierre.
1986 (summer) Keith served as General Manager of the Savannah Cardinals, Single-A affiliate of the parent Major League Baseball club St. Louis Cardinals.
1988-1990 Keith became Assistant Director of Public Relations for the National Football League Indianapolis Colts.
1991 Keith was the Operations Intern with the Bell South Classic golf tournament in Atlanta, Georgia.
1991-current Keith joined the PGA Tour/Champions Tour as a member of the Operations Staff. He was later promoted to Manager and then Director of Tournament Operations in 1995 and 2005.
