Make A Decision

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15
Life is full of choices. From the time you open your eyes you are faced with choices. Do I get up now or sleep another few minutes; what am I going to wear today; what should I have for breakfast or should I have breakfast at all?
As the day progresses more choices present themselves to you. What should I have for lunch, which project should I tackle first today and so on. With each choice comes the need for a decision.
Now the decision making process is one that is often not handled as wisely as it could be. Sometimes we make decisions too quickly, sometimes not quickly enough and sometimes not at all. However, if there is a choice, You must make a decision.
The problem with many of us, myself included, is that we tend to make decisions but not stick to them. We allow our outside influences to change our mind, our inner fears to stop us, our physical or economical limitations too stagnate us and as a result far too often we deviate from the decision that was initially made.
“If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.” John 12:26
It’s time for you to stick to the decisions you make. I know it’s hard sometimes because just as you make a decision, your circumstances change (test), when you begin to move in the direction of your decision, something interesting or appealing appears (temptation) and just as soon as things seem to be working out, all hell breaks loose (distractions) but you must stick to your decision.
No one knows what God’s plans are for you but God and you know when something feels right or wrong to you. Your destiny lies in your hands and you can’t worry about what they think or what they say. So you won’t be invited to that event, so you won’t fit in with that crowd, so they don’t want to talk to you anymore and so what if they don’t understand why you are doing what you are doing or don’t agree. At the end of the day, you have to live with what you decide about your life and that’s why you must stick with the decisions you make.

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE MEMBERS HONORED; SAMFORD BEATS ASU

The Alabama State softball team paid tribute to the brave men and women who have fought courageously to protect our country’s freedom with a special Military Appreciation Day at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex on Tuesday evening.

Members from Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery were honored with a special pre-game ceremony.  Base commander and Colonel Andrea D. Tullos was the esteemed guest of honor as she tossed the game’s ceremonial first pitch and threw a strike.

Nine other respected members of the Air Force also accompanied ASU’s starting nine players to their defensive spots on the field before the playing of the National Anthem.

Lady Hornet softball players also wore camouflaged alterations of their Alabama State uniforms to show their support.

In the game, Alabama State was held in check by a trio of pitchers as Samford defeated the Lady Hornets 6-1.

ASU (10-23 overall) was able to tie it at 1-1 in the second inning after Alexis Johnson and Carly Evans each worked out walks to begin the inning.

After the runners moved up on a wild pitch, Kendall Core hit a grounder to the second baseman, which fielded and threw home.

Pinch runner Tacresha Evans appeared to slide underneath the tag from the Samford catcher on a throw.

Instead, she was ruled out.

After Britney Wilson drew a walk, the next two ASU batters were retired to end the threat.

Samford (24-13 overall) took the lead for good on a RBI double down the right field line by Abby Miranda.  The Lady Bulldogs added three more runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to close out the scoring.

Next, ASU will play at Jackson State in a three-game series set to begin on Friday at 6 p.m. in a SWAC showdown.  The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday.

FORMER MADISON POLICE OFFICER INDICTED ON USE OF UNREASONABLE FORCE AGAINST A MAN HE WAS QUESTIONING

BIRMINGHAM – Acting Assistant Attorney General Vanita Gupta of the Civil Rights Division, U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and FBI Special Agent in Charge Roger C. Stanton today announced the indictment of a Madison police officer for using unreasonable force against a man he was attempting to question in February.

The one-count felony indictment filed in U.S. District Court charges that ERIC SLOAN PARKER, 26, of Toney, while acting in his official capacity as a police officer on Feb. 6 in Limestone County, injured a man by slamming him to the ground. The indictment identifies the victim only by initials, “S.P.”

“Police officers are sworn to uphold the law and protect the public. The public must be able to trust the police,” Vance said. “Law enforcement officers who violate their oath to protect and use excessive force must be brought to justice.”

According to the indictment, Parker’s actions deprived the victim of his right under the U.S. Constitution to be secure from unreasonable searches and seizures, which includes the right to be free from unreasonable force by someone acting under color of law.

An indictment is only an allegation and does not constitute evidence of guilt on the part of the defendant.

The FBI investigated the case. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert O. Posey, Assistant U.S. Attorney Russell E. Penfield and DOJ Trial Attorney Henry C. Leventis of the Civil Rights Division and are prosecuting the case.

From Staff Report

The Women Gather: AnEvening of Poetry and MusicBIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On Thursday, March 26,2015 at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI) in the Rev. Abraham L. Woods, Jr. Community Meeting Room a beautiful and vast array of individuals cametogether to partake in “The Women Gather: An Evening of Poetry and Music” hosted by Priscilla Hancock-Cooper (the Interim President/CEO of the BCRI).  Where we were then enchanted by the jazzy soulful, smooth voice of Wafiyyah El-Amin in song, given an opportunity to experience the “Sankofa State of Mind” (presented by Evelyn Dilworth-Williams), given a lecture in “Niggerology 101” by electrifying Mimi Latoine, reminded to open our ears to really hear when someone asks you to “Pray for Me” by Shaunetka Curry to name a few. We witnessed an unforgettable dance performance to Darryl Duncan’s “18” by the Lockhart Dance Theatre and heard the passionate pleas, challenges and calls for action to remember BLACK LIVES MATTER.  Yes, indeed there was a talented group of women that gathered to pour of themselves freely to all who courageously heeded their call to gather at the BRCI to finally acknowledge that “Pink Elephant in the room by then name of Racism” and I thank them each individually for all that they shared.
