My Hiding Place

Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.
For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.
O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.
Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long.
For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the draught of summer.
I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.
For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.
Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance.
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: i will guide thee with mine eye.
Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.
Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall encompass him about.
Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous:  and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.
Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.
Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltry and an instrument of ten strings.
Sing unto him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise.
For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

from Psalms 31-33

A Cloud of Adversity (Part l)

0

Electra Adams  The elements of hierarchy hold inclusiveness; it also holds the element of exclusiveness. When we declare Matthew 6: 9 b…Our Father, we declare inclusively. He is our Father: all of our Father, if it is true that we are called as children by His name. The words, Your God imply the fellowship of a friend. A friend is, as Augustine says it, half one’s self.  He is studious and desirous of how he may do his friend good. He promotes his welfare as his own. Jonathan ventured the king’s displeasure for his friend David. God is our friend; therefore, He will turn all things to our good.
There are false friends. Christ was betrayed by a friend. God is a faithful, a permanent friend, and is known as The Best Friend. At a forecast of 90 degrees and cloudy, humans often fail the test. Many deal with their friends as some do with flowers. While they are fresh, they put them in their bosoms, but when they begin to wither, they toss them away. Accordingly, if prosperity shines on men, then friends will look upon them. But if there be a cloud of adversity, they will not come near them. But God is a friend forever! He will never betray you or remove His love from you.
Offenses and adversity will happen to all humans; sooner or later. But betrayal is a choice. It should never become the garments or shoes of a brother or sister. We must put on Christ, having our feet covered with peace, forgiveness and truth. No one makes you lie, become deceitful, or walk in betrayal; not even the devil. He did not have power to make you do anything!! It was in your heart all along; for out of your heart comes the issues of life.
This week let us walk away from legal lies and remember to do unto others as we will have them do unto us…for it truly won’t matter under any circumstance who started it, know that we do reap what we have sown. If you want to be forgiven you must learn to be merciful and forgiving! Get out of your comfort zone, there is a world of darkness waiting on your light!
 Have a great week!

Inviting the Uninvited
Rev. J. R. Reid

Once it happened: The weather was bad and stormy, and an airplane was lost. The fog was so dense that everybody became afraid and fearful. A minister was aboard; except for him, everybody was weeping, crying, perspiring. The moment was dangerous. At any moment the plane could crash. Even the pilot was perspiring and nervous. The minister told everybody to kneel down and pray. They all kneeled and started praying except a small businessman. The minister asked the businessman, “Why are you not praying?” The man said, “Forgive me, pastor, because I don’t know how to pray. I have never prayed.” And there was no time to teach the man: any moment the plane would be falling, any moment it would hit the ground. So the minister said, “Okay, there is no time left now. So you just behave as if you are in a church.” The businessman started walking down the aisles collecting money.
The businessman was one of the invited guests to the dinner Jesus spoke of in his parable on people who were invited to a wedding but did not come. Even at the moment of death a businessperson thinks of the world. What’s going to happen to the things accumulated on earth? At the last moment money remains the focus.
Here is the problem. Many of us receive a daily invitation from the Lord to come and dine and in our mind we have good explanations for refusing the offer. We are caught up in what WE are doing and have reserved, maybe, a few hours a week for the Lord. Many of us don’t even do that. Maybe one hour on Sunday. No more! And the pastor better keep the service to one hour! What we do on a daily basis seems reasonable, even though it takes hours of the week for us to do it! We don’t need Sunday school, vacation Bible school, Bible study or any other work in the church. Don’t invite us! We are busy!
Jesus tells a simple, yet significant parable. The symbolic meaning of the parable is concerned with a particular type of Christian or nonbeliever who spends most of their time doing other things instead of seeking the Kingdom of God. People in this type usually call themselves business people or busy people. God knows we need more business people in our community but for our purposes the word business person means anyone who allows anything to become an excuse to keep them from attending the banquet of the Lord. Our type of business person is one who is busy about non-significant things, the trivial, the outside, about things, commodities, but not busy about developing and maintaining a strong relationship with God. This person is lost in the world and apart from the few minutes or hours he gives to the Lord a week – if that – there is always something else to do. This person thinks of money, accumulation and possessions, but seldom of their soul salvation unless they are feeling old and feeble, sick or dying. It is for this reason that the master in our parable begin to invite the uninvited. We can only hear and receive God’s invitation if we are unoccupied with the things of this world when the invitation comes. Those who are somebody in the world of ego will always refuse the invitation, because the ego needs constant occupation and find it hard to enjoy life. Do you know people that have to keep busy or they will go crazy? They invent work so they don’t have to spend time with themselves or other people. If they don’t invent work, they have to be entertained.
The master in our story told his servant to go find and bring those on the road who are nobodies because God has to share. If the VIPs were not coming, bring the beggars, the lost, lonely and last. Bring vagabonds, lost sheep and those who have gone astray. It is these people who will enjoy God more than emperors and kings. The wealthy, powerful and privileged are too busy! The worldly person doesn’t have time! Even the retired person has a full schedule because they have a quality of being unoccupied. It is only when we become occupied with the Lord that we accept His invitation.

May I ask what kind of investment you are making for your everlasting security? Why do I ask? Well, it is because life is so very short, and there is such a vast range of conglomerate investors pressing for information, which are leading many into confusion, and some are real and many are not. I really desire that you make the real and everlasting investment.
Did you ask which investment is real? Yes, what do you have to offer? Oh, I am so glad you asked, because I have the greatest and most real and valuable investment that anyone can make.
Have a seat, and let me tell you about the one I am sure about, because I am a member. Does being a member make you sure about it? Sure, I have had many family members and friends who have benefitted.
Okay, tell me about it. I will tell you, but I want you to read the Most Holy and dependable Book that tells you all about its master plan. There is page after page, which explains in detail the founder and creator of the plan.   Information is also in the Book about the author’s love and concern for each member that is heart melting.
First, I would like to make it quite clear what will happen when you make your investment. You will receive an everlasting security plan as long as you live on earth. Second, you will receive a guarantee seal of an everlasting life with the Creator who is merciful and gracious to all the investors, who have committed their lives to investing in His Master Plan. [Ephesians 1:13]
The Creator of the investment plan is the life giver who gave His life for you that you may have eternal life with Him. Have you invested yet?  www.thealmightyeyes.com.

Cheryl Toyota Scion FRSby Cheryl Eldridge

If you are looking for a sporty two door automobile, one for which you won’t have to break your bank, then Scion’s FR-S should be one strong contender.. My one week test drive with the $25,215 FR-S, coated in firestorm was fantastic.
My son enjoyed the drive and even my daughter and her friends; however, I could only  travel with four people at a time.
This brand new automobile debuted last year according to Edmunds.
It’s nice, quiet, sleek, and  is one of the sportiest cars in its family of Scions and Toyotas.
The four-seat 2014 Scion FR-S coupe comes in a single trim level. Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels; air-conditioning; full power accessories; a height-adjustable driver seat; a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel; cruise control; Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity; and an eight-speaker sound system with a 6.1 inch touchscreen, a CD player, HD radio, an auxiliary audio jack and USB/iPod integration.
In lieu of factory options, Scion offers an array of dealer-installed accessories that include foglights, a performance exhaust system and a premium BeSpoke sound system with navigation, voice command, smartphone app integration and Internet radio.
Under the FR-S’s sleek hood is a 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine generating 200 hp and 151 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic with paddle shifters and rev-matched downshifts routes power to the rear wheels.
The six-speed manual FR-S returns an impressive 25 mpg combined (22 mpg city/30 mpg highway), while the automatic achieves 28 combined (25 city/34 highway).
On the safety side, the FR-S includes antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags.
Inside the Scion has made few concessions to style in the FR-S’s simple, businesslike cabin. It’s an environment that emphasizes driving, punctuated only by a blend of Toyota and Subaru switchgear and materials. The FR-S’s cockpit looks a little bare compared with other compact sport cars in its price range (like the feature-laden Ford Focus ST), yet it also feels like a genuine back-to-basics driver’s car. A standard touchscreen-based sound system interface is new this year, but opting for the upgraded BeSpoke system is still the way to get navigation functionality and smartphone app integration.
The FR-S’s front seats offer firm support for hard driving, but remain comfortable over long-distance travel as well. Drivers of just about any size can find a suitable driving position, and the low-profile hood allows an expansive view of the road ahead.
There’s a backseat, too, but not many adults will want to sit back there. Legroom is next to nil, heads bob perilously close to the rear glass and the center tunnel impedes hiproom. Trunk space is also small at 6.9 cubic feet, although folding down the mostly useless backseat expands cargo-carrying abilities considerably.
However, in a nutshell, I really enjoyed the FR-S and salute the Toyota engineers.
Until next week, drive safe and buckle up, it’s the law.

2015 Kia SorentoBy Frank S. Washington

DETROIT – We ended a week-long test drive of the 2015 Kia Sorento SXL FWD and think it was a pretty good crossover vehicle.
The Sorento had a 3.3-liter direct injection V6 engine that made 290 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque. It was mated to a six-speed automatic suspension.
It had an EPA rating of 18 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg combined. According to its internal readout, our tester averaged 20.6 mpg. That wasn’t bad for a 3,700 lb. crossover.
Getting around town was a breeze in Kia’s Sorento. Acceleration was pretty good, handling was really good. The crossover vehicle and its electric power steering had the feel of a midsize sedan.
It had a turning radius of 35.8 ft., a 2.9 turn of the wheel lock to lock, it switched lanes without a lot body sway and the sight lines were unimpeded. Our test vehicle had a panoramic roof sun roof and that let in even more light.
The MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link setup in the rear provided a smooth un-accosted ride on the roughest roads. The Sorento was quiet, there was not a lot of wind noise considering its high profile and it had the solid feel of a quality build.
The exterior design was aggressive. Sharp lines and creases lent sophistication to the Kia Sorento’s look. For 2015, the crossover had a black mesh grille and the lower valance had a cross-hatched intake.
It had LED running lights above the headlights in the front that looked like eyebrows. The fog lights were pushed to the corners. In the rear it had LED taillights and an aggressively styled rear fascia and this Sorento rode on 19-inch wheels.
But we think the real value was inside. The Kia Sorento had a faux wood grain trim interior and it was chock full of equipment. It had leather trim seating, heated and cooled front seats, a wood trim steering wheel, push button start and stop, and the crossover’s premium audio system streamed Pandora off of our iPhone thanks to the Bluetooth connection.
Of course there was satellite radio. However, there was also blind side assistance, a backup camera; heated second row seats and the panoramic roof did open. We were surprised that the second row seats were heated, we just weren’t expecting that. Nor were we expecting a third row of seats and the power liftgate.
And the vehicle could tow 3,500 lbs. Kia’s Sorento was a capable crossover but let’s talk about a couple of shortcomings. The crossover came with a smart key as well as a heated steering wheel. Turn the car off and restart it and the steering wheel heat control was still on if that’s the way it was when you turned it off. That’s good, particular in winter months.
However, lock the Sorento with the key fob, and then hit it a second time to engage the alarm system and the side view mirrors fold inward. Start the crossover and those mirrors do not automatically deploy. That is a safety issue. Drivers should know immediately what is around them when they get in their vehicles. You can’t do that if you have to manually redeploy the side mirrors. In the Sorento that is an easy fix, just program the side mirrors to redeploy when the vehicle starts.
Getting in and out of the third row seats was a chore for an adult. Perhaps kids, who those third row seats are designed for, won’t find it a big problem.
Still surprising was the manual rear side window shades and the climate controls in the rear. There was a bunch of creature comforts in the 2015 Kia Sorento SXL. And as always, Kia offers value as evidenced by the price of our test vehicle: $40,795.

Hard Cider Helps Make Entertaining Easy

0

Hard cider(NAPSA) – With football season under way, why not take your tailgating eats up a notch? Angry Orchard Crisp Apple is a crisp and refreshing hard cider perfect for any palate no matter what team you’re rooting for. The cider’s fresh apple aroma and slightly sweet, ripe apple flavor complement the bold flavors of game day fare and also make for great cider cocktails.
If you’re looking for a new recipe to get everyone cheering, take a tip from Bravo’s “Top Chef Duels” contestant and owner of Gunshow restaurant, Kevin Gillespie, and turn to cider. He notes, “Using Angry Orchard hard cider as an ingredient gives dishes a refreshing, fruit-forward taste with every bite. Hard cider not only adds more flavor to my BBQ, but is also a great universal pairing.”
To prove it, he’s created the ultimate wing dish: Churrasco Chicken Wings with Angry Orchard Chimichurri.

Churrasco Chicken Wings with Angry Orchard Chimichurri

4    large egg yolks
1⁄2    cup Angry Orchard Crisp Apple
2    tablespoons poultry seasoning
2    tablespoons kosher salt
1    cup canola oil
20    whole chicken wings, separated into flats and drums, wing tips
discarded
14    12″ metal skewers

In a food processor, blend the egg yolks, Angry Orchard, poultry seasoning and salt until the yolks fluff, about 30 seconds. With the processor running, put the pusher tube in the top and pour the oil into the tube to emulsify the mixture. Pour 1⁄4 cup of the marinade in a small jar, cover and refrigerate. Place the chicken and remaining marinade in a large zip-lock bag, massaging the chicken and completely covering with the marinade. Zip the top closed, removing any air as you seal the bag. Place the bag in a bowl and refrigerate. Heat grill to medium high. Prepare an area of indirect heat to grill the chicken. Use reserved marinade for basting. Remove the chicken from the zip-lock bag and pat completely dry. Using 2 skewers, pierce the chicken through each end, so you have 2 skewers through each wing/drumette, leaving a little space between pieces so you have nice, flat, 2-skewer, 6-piece kebabs to work with. After 10 minutes, flip the kebabs, moving them to a new, hot part of the grill, still over indirect heat, and grill another 5 minutes. Baste with the reserved marinade, flip the kebabs and baste again. Grill another 5 minutes for a total cooking time of 20 minutes. Remove the chicken from the grill, brush with the remaining basting sauce and rest for 10 minutes. Serve with Chimichurri Sauce.

Chimichurri Sauce
Makes about 11⁄2 cups

1    bunch parsley, stems removed, leaves chopped, to make about 1⁄3
cup
3    tablespoons fresh oregano, chopped
1⁄2    cup olive oil
1⁄4    cup Angry Orchard Crisp Apple
2    tablespoons red wine vinegar
1    tablespoon dried oregano
1    teaspoon kosher salt
1⁄4    teaspoon Espelette pepper
1    Granny Smith apple, peeled
2    tablespoons finely diced red onion
2    teaspoons minced garlic
1⁄2    teaspoon dried chili flakes

Mix parsley, fresh oregano and olive oil and set aside. In a separate bowl, whisk the cider, vinegar, dried oregano, salt and Espelette pepper until the salt is dissolved. Grate the apple on the largest holes of a box grater onto a paper towel. Stir 1⁄4 cup of the grated apple, onion, garlic and chili flakes into the cider mixture and set aside. Just before serving, mix the oil mixture with the vinegar mixture.
