Problem-child behavior could result from early puberty in girls

0

Puberty in GirlBIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Findings from a University of Alabama at Birmingham study published Dec. 9 in the journal Pediatrics show that adolescent girls who experience their first menstrual cycle prior to age 11 reported more delinquent and physically aggressive behavior.
By age 16, the effect of early puberty on physical aggression disappeared, but these girls still reported more delinquent behavior than those who did not experience early puberty.
“Delinquency and aggression put adolescents at risk for many negative outcomes in the future, including lower educational achievement, substance abuse, depression and problems in relationships,” explained the study’s lead author Sylvie Mrug, Ph.D., associate professor in the UAB Department of Psychology. “Thus it is important to understand how these problem behaviors develop and how pubertal timing and friends’ behavior – among other variables – contribute to them.”
Mrug and colleagues interviewed more than 2,600 girls and their parents three times between the ages of 11-16 to examine how early puberty onset and best friends’ problem behavior, like talking back to adults, lying, cheating and not being nice, contributed to delinquency and different types of aggression over time.
Girls who had a best friend with more problem behavior reported more delinquent and aggressive behavior at age 11, but these effects mostly dissipated by age 16.
“This suggests that negative peer influences from best friends at age 11 are short-lived, perhaps because best friends change as children enter middle school,” Mrug said. “The most interesting finding was that girls who experienced early puberty reported more delinquent behavior if their best friend was more deviant.”
The results suggest that early maturing girls are more vulnerable to negative peer influences.
“It is important for parents and other adults to monitor who the friends are and what the girls do with their friends,” Mrug said. “Of course this is important for all children and adolescents, but it may be even more critical for girls who mature early, as they are more vulnerable.”
Another result is that early puberty and best friends’ behavior at age 11 do not put girls on trajectories of long-term problem behaviors, according to Mrug.
“These influences can be short-lived, and this may give hope to families dealing with such issues,” she said.
Mrug says it is important to have more studies that follow girls and boys from childhood through adolescence and into adulthood to see how much different risk factors matter in the long-term. Further study is needed to examine other relevant risk and protective factors such as social support or parenting influences.
The sample of girls came from a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds, and results showed that most of the relationships between early puberty, friends’ behavior and aggression and delinquency are the same across race and ethnicity.

ADPH seeks assistance in comprehensive community health assessment

0

partners_adphThe Alabama Department of Public Health is seeking survey input from diverse organizations,
agencies, businesses, programs, individuals, consumers and others in identifying appropriate
and relevant health issues that they would like to have considered for inclusion in a statewide
and local health assessment. Names of participants are not requested in the survey. The brief
online survey can be responded to by visiting http://bit.ly/1cqyvEr. Please respond by Jan. 15,
2014.

“We need the assistance of interested groups and individuals from different backgrounds and
parts of the state to respond to the survey,” Stacey Adams, team leader said. “By better
understanding the health concerns and needs of the state, identifying partners that we can work
with, and focusing our efforts, we can effectively improve the health status of Alabamians.”

The assessment that is being developed through this survey and other related activities
will help identify and prioritize the health needs of the state,  establish a measurable starting
point for tracking progress, and serve as a foundation for a statewide health improvement plan.

In addition to other benefits, the health assessment will position the department to
apply for accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). Accreditation will advance
the quality and performance of the agency. It provides a means to identify performance
improvement opportunities, improve management, develop leadership, and improve
relationships with other community components.

PHAB is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the quality and performance of public
health departments by providing a national framework of standards and a process to achieve
voluntary accreditation. PHAB was created to serve as the national public health accrediting
body. It is jointly funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Robert
Wood Johnson Foundation.

Living the Good Life: 2014 Audi A6

0

CHERYL AUDIby Cheryl Eldridge

The end of the year is approaching and I have been blessed to test a number of the latest automobiles in the industry for 2013 and 2014.
Last week’s tester, the Audi A6 was grand, because about two months prior I test drove A8, the number one Audi in its class.
The A6 doesn’t fall short from the A8, both are really spacious, great on gas and  the perfect luxury car.
Technically speaking, for 2014, the Audi A6 adds a fuel-efficient diesel V6 engine to its already excellent lineup of engines. The base 2.0-liter four-cylinder is a bit more powerful this year as well. Finally, the 3.0T trim now starts at the Premium Plus trim level (the new TDI trim starts at this level as well).
The 2014 Audi A6 is a midsize luxury sedan available in six trim levels – 2.0T Premium, 2.0T Premium Plus, 3.0T Premium Plus, 3.0T Prestige, TDI Premium Plus and TDI Prestige. The numbers and letters denote the engine fitted (a 2.0-liter turbocharged four, a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 or a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel).
Standard equipment for the 2.0T Premium includes 17-inch wheels, Audi Drive Select (adjustable modes for steering, throttle and transmission), automatic headlights and wipers, heated mirrors, a sunroof, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, triple-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats with eight-way power (includes four-way lumbar adjustments), leather upholstery, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth phone connectivity, Audi’s MMI electronics interface, a 6.5-inch display and a 10-speaker sound system with a CD player, satellite radio and an iPod interface.
The 2.0T Premium Plus adds 18-inch wheels, xenon headlights, LED running lights, front and rear parking sensors, auto-dimming outside mirrors, keyless ignition/entry, a voice-activated navigation system, a rearview camera, HD radio, an enhanced MMI controller, Bluetooth audio connectivity and Audi Connect (enhanced Web-based navigation, information and WiFi access).
The 3.0T Premium Plus is equipped similarly to the 2.0T Premium Plus but adds a fuel-saving stop-start engine system and Audi Pre-Sense Basic, which tightens the seatbelts and closes the sunroof and side windows if it detects a potential collision situation. The 3.0T Prestige adds adaptive headlights, special exterior styling accents, ambient LED cabin lighting, four-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, a blind spot warning system, a rear collision warning system, a power-adjustable steering wheel and a Bose audio system.
The TDI Premium Plus is equipped similarly to the 3.0T Premium Plus, while the TDI Prestige has the same equipment as the 3.0T Prestige.
The availability of option packages depends on the trim level you select. The list includes the Style package (xenon headlights and 18-inch wheels), the Innovation package (includes head-up display and night vision assistant), the Cold Weather package (heated front and rear seats and heated steering wheel), the Sport package (adds a sport-tuned suspension, a sport steering wheel, shift paddles and either 19-inch wheels with all-season tires or 20-inch wheels with summer tires), the Driver Assistance package (top-view camera system with front and rear corner views, adaptive cruise control, active lane assist and the Audi Pre-Sense Plus collision mitigation system) and the Black Optic package (available with the Sport package, and adds 20-inch wheels, summer tires and high-gloss black trim).
Stand-alone options include LED headlights, a premium 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround-sound audio system, a power rear window sunshade (with manual rear door sunshades) and rear side airbags.
The 2014 Audi A6 2.0T is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 good for 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) are standard, and all-wheel drive with an eight-speed automatic is available as an option. Audi claims a 0-60-mph time of 7.4 seconds for CVT models and 6.6 seconds with the eight-speed automatic, which if true is a bit slow relative to others in the segment. You’ll do well at the gas pump, though, as EPA-estimated fuel economy is 25 mpg city/33 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined for the CVT and 20/29/23 mpg for the eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.
The Audi A6 3.0T gets a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 that produces 310 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic, all-wheel drive and stop-start technology are all standard. In Edmunds performance testing, the 3.0T sedan went from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, a quick time among midsize luxury sedans equipped with similarly powerful six-cylinder engines. Fuel economy stands at an estimated 18/27/22, which is quite good.
With the A6 TDI, you get a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel-fueled V6 good for 240 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. The eight-speed auto and all-wheel drive are again standard. According to Audi, this engine gets the A6 from zero to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. Fuel economy with the TDI is a stellar 24/38/29.
Standard safety equipment on the 2014 Audi A6 includes antilock disc brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and front knee airbags. Rear side airbags, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning/keeping assist and a blind-spot warning system are either optional or included with the upper trims.
The standard Audi Pre-Sense system can warn the driver, tension the seatbelts and close the windows if a potential collision is detected, while the optional Audi Pre-Sense Plus system can do all that, plus fully tighten the seatbelts and automatically apply the brakes full force to mitigate the severity of an imminent crash. The A6’s Prestige trim also comes with Audi Pre-Sense Rear, which uses the brake light to warn traffic behind the vehicle in the event of a rear collision, employing additional preventive protective measures should the situation turn critical.
In Edmunds brake testing, an A6 3.0T with the Sport package and summer performance tires came to a stop from 60 mph in 111 feet, an average distance for a car in this class with summer tires. Expect longer distances on A6s with all-season tires. In crash testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the A6 received the highest possible rating of “Good” in the moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact and roof strength tests.
The 2014 Audi A6 offers one of the finest cabins in its class, with an attractive dash layout, excellent materials quality and solid fit and finish. The MMI (Multi Media Interface) controls entertainment, communication and navigation functions via the dash-mounted pop-up screen and a knob and buttons on the center console. The system boasts logical menus, crisp graphics and a touchpad to increase functionality.
The A6 also offers the option of in-car WiFi, which uses a 3G connection and adds Google Earth data to the navigation system while also providing simplified Google search for POIs. It sounds a bit over the top, but it’s actually quite handy if you need to get some unexpected work done on the road and there’s no Starbucks in sight. The Google Earth nav system is more a matter of form over function, though, and can actually make the map more difficult to comprehend at a glance.
All the seats are supportive and comfortable on long trips, while the backseat in particular offers more real-world legroom than most rivals. The A6’s 14.1-cubic-foot trunk is on the small side, though the rear seat folds and features a pass-through when more space is needed.
The 2014 Audi A6 feels light and changes directions eagerly. There’s plenty of grip, and overall, the A6 provides a satisfying connection between car and driver: not something we can say about every midsize luxury sedan. The A6’s steering can feel overly light at low speeds, but the effort level increases in a reasonably linear fashion when driving through turns at higher speed.
The supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine provides sharp response off the line and continues to pull with authority throughout the range. The 2.0T doesn’t sound as refined as a six-cylinder, but it’s hard to argue with the excellent fuel economy it returns. The eight-speed automatic is excellent, with quick, imperceptible shifts in normal use and smooth downshifts for when you need quick acceleration. The front-drive 2.0T model’s CVT isn’t bad either, as it responds consistently to gas pedal inputs, something that can’t be said of most CVTs.
Although the Audi A6 has a smooth ride, there were sometimes more harshness over bumps and ruts than we’d like, which is the price to be paid for the A6’s more athletic handling. Forgoing the optional Sport suspension and 20-inch summer tires should help if this is an issue for you.
My tester’s price was $53,845 with all of the extra amenities included.

Until next week, drive safe, buckle up and don’t text and drive.

2014 Ford Fiesta ST

2014 Ford Fiesta STBy Frank S. Washington

DETROIT – The 2014 Ford Fiesta ST was firecracker of a little car.
Under the hood was a direct injected1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that made 197 horsepower and 202 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a six-speed manual gear-box, the four-door hatchback was very stylish, very powerful and very fast.
Power is not only about horses it is about weight. And at 2,742 lbs., the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST had a power ratio of almost 14 horsepower per pound. That’s hefty and according to Ford, the Fiesta ST has more punch than any of its direct competitors.
The Fiesta was the kind of car that changes a driver. It makes you take curves far faster than you normally would. It was small enough and fast enough to shoot the gaps in traffic; maneuvers that never would have occurred to you in a less athletic vehicle. And while adhering to the speed limit, it seemed like the Fiesta was moving in slow motion.
Its performance was matched by its very sporty look. The 2014 Ford Fiesta had a unique grille and chin spoiler with new rear diffuser and fascia extensions. Bright tipped dual-exhaust pipes and high-mount spoiler along with unique 17-inch wheels were the first things that signaled this was not an average car.
The Fiesta really looked aggressive. Normally, subcompacts don’t get second looks, not even first glances on the street. But the Fiesta ST had an élan that onlookers picked up on right away. From its very sporty look, it was obvious that the ST was a very special Ford Fiesta.
But Ford engineers say the Fiesta is more than just pretty sheet metal. Of course, it had a sport tuned suspension, read stiffer. But the brakes were bigger, thus, stronger. A modified front knuckle gave the car a steering ratio of 13.6:1. Thus, the car reacted to driver input almost instantly.
Steering was almost as quick as a Go-kart. The rear axle had increased roll stiffness. That allowed the Fiesta to stay stable while cornering aggressively. And it eliminated rear wheel skip while traversing a really ruddy patch of road here at speed.
The Fiesta ST was also 15 millimeters lower than a base model Ford Fiesta. Torque vectoring control reduced understeer during the hard cornering the car was put through and the subcompact also had a three-mode electronic stability control: standard, sport or off.
Engineers didn’t overlook the way the 2014 Ford Fiesta sounded either. The sound symposer fed directly into the cabin of the car and it was rhythmic.
The interior was that kind of no nonsense straight to the point layout expected of most performance cars. The steering wheel and the shift knob were wrapped in leather as was the heated Rocaro seats.
There was a smart key, SYNC with MyFord Touch with a 6.5-inch screen, a navigation system, Bluetooth, satellite radio, a tire pressure monitoring system and voice controls. Although the test car did not have a sunroof, one is available.
Ford doesn’t try and guilt trip drivers of the 2014 Fiesta ST with the premium fuel recommended advisory label on the inside of the fuel door of its capless fueling system. Why bother? The car had an EPA rating of 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway.
Best of all was the price. The 2014 Ford Fiesta ST started at $21,400. Add on the ST Recaro Package, the navigation system and freight charges and the total came to $24,985 for the test car. That was astoundingly reasonable, from a relative standpoint, for an awful lot of car.

A Pre-Christmas Getaway In Destin

0

by Cheryl Eldridge,
Editor

‘Tis the Season to Be Jolly!  The Christmas season is in the atmosphere and it’s time to celebrate and give back. There is, however, a best kept secret in Florida and to experience it you will want to come back over and over again. I would recommend anyone who’s looking for a great time, great food and a nice atmosphere, to visit Miramar and Destin Florida. Wyndham Vacation Rentals offers thousands of vacation rentals across Northwest Florida, including Gulf-front condos, full-service resorts and luxurious private homes. Their properties can accommodate parties of any size, from a couple in search of a honeymoon suite to family reunions and business groups in need of a large beach home or multiple condominiums. The Thanksgiving experience was fit for those who like to experience the finer things in life. If you’re frugal, that’s fine also because Miramar and Destin Florida has so much to offer. Our five hour drive was easy for my family of six and  people who don’t like to drive long distances, especially if you have little ones, like I do. You won’t have to worry about the big question “Mom/Dad  are we there yet?
Come on down and gain the experience of a lifetime! Our three day stay included residing in one of Wyndham’s top resorts, the TOPS’L Tides Beach and Racquet Resort off of Emerald Coast Parkway. TOPS’L is a tranquil beach and racquet resort just east of Destin, in the Sandestin area of Northwest Florida. It offers the peace of a location off the beaten path, while still having the conveniences of city attractions just a few minutes’ drive away. Situated on 52 private acres, this full-service resort is bordered by the beautiful beaches of the Gulf of Mexico and a nature preserve – so without ever getting in the car, guests here can choose from beach fun, tennis time or outdoor recreation exploring the area’s natural beauty. Tour the award-winning tennis facilities, unwind by the pool or take a walk on the beach. If you are in need of an ocean view, this is definitely the place for you. Our two bedroom Gulf Front condo was really breathtaking. Not only did the condo have everything that you would need, but comfort was #1. The condo had beautiful decor and had two bathrooms, a full kitchen, dining area and two nice bedrooms. When you open the door and stand on your balcony, you view the glistening water and whites sands from Miramar Beaches.
The condo was equipped with two pools including a kiddie pool and two jacuzzi pools. There is also a fitness center at the resort for the more fitness gurus. Staying fit is a plus, if you enjoy being your best.
Our adventure started on Friday at Southern Star Dolphin Cruise which is known nationally as Destin’s original Dolphin Cruise to enjoy the pristine waters of the world’s most beautiful beaches and experience up close viewing of dolphins, seabirds and a variety of other marine life. On our two hour relaxing cruise, we saw over 84 dolphins which was a miracle, as their theme is “expect a Miracle.” They enjoyed us cheering them on for their stunts. They also travel in groups of three of more with the mother dolphin leading the way, especially around feeding time; by the way, the sea gulls entertained us as well and we even got up close enough to feed them. My son enjoyed the sight and to put the “icing on the cake” they let him steer the boat, as well as other young kids on our fully narrated cruise ride. He could really steer! Go Phillip! My teenagers, Amber and Ashley, got a chance to take a photo and observe the dolphins and take photos of other small islands along the Gulf.
Immediately following our amazing cruise, we had dinner at Fudpucker’s Beachside Bar and Grill in Destin, which is eight minutes east of the Harbor on Hwy 98; 20001 Emerald Coast Pkwy, Destin, FL 32541. They rank #1 in hospitality, food and their facility. After seeing so much of the ocean, it was time to  unwind and relax, and enjoy some good food. The cutest thing was when I asked where the nearest restroom was, the young lady told me to follow the alligator tracks – which a person can follow in one trail that branches off in two. It was really funny trying to follow the small alligator footsteps, but when we arrived to our destination, we were pleased. Fudpucker’s was definitely a family-oriented place with live alligators located in Gator Island under the restaurant and even an educational museum.
Gator Beach is  one of the most exciting venues at Fudpucker’s in Destin.  Located below Club Key West, Gator Beach gives you the chance to see over 80 live alligators, up close and personal.  But, you’ll not only be able to see the gators, you’ll be able to feed them as well. That’s right – you can feed the live alligators at Fudpucker’s Gator Beach. Just attach a piece of specially formulated “gator bait” to a cane pole and lower the food down into the pond!  A portion of the proceeds from the gator food sales is donated to the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge, a local nonprofit wildlife protection organization. It’s easy, it’s safe and above all. it’s fun for the entire family. They also have a series of exciting gator shows each and every day featuring any one of the Gator Handlers. The shows are designed to tell you everything you ever wanted to know about these ultra cool creatures in an interactive format where the Gator Handlers answer questions from the audience. So, I would definitely recommend this place  where I really enjoyed the fun.
According to their menu, Fudpucker’s celebrated 31 years of fun and is locally owned and operated, since its inception in 1982, by the most happiest person that one could ever meet, Mr. Chester Kroeger aka Father Fud. Father Fud and his staff made sure that we felt at home because there is nothing like Southern hospitality. Service was exemplary. The staff was warm and welcoming. Our server,Travis Marshal, made sure that we had everything that we needed and was well-versed in the menu and specials. Not only was he fast, he was efficient and made me and my entourage feel at home. All of the food was delicious and I would recommend the potato teasers and the gator tails of which “Father Fud” enticed my mother into eating, such a wonderful delicacy.
They also specialize in other seafood and hamburgers, etc. Fudpucker’s is dedicated to its owners’ three favorite “F” words: Food, Fun and Friends. And, you can be assured that there’s plenty of each when you visit Fudpucker’s. Renowned for Great Food, Live Entertainment, and World Famous T-shirts, Fudpucker’s is not just a restaurant, it’s not just a bar, and it’s certainly not just a “tourist” place – it’s a one-of-a-kind experience, and one that can be enjoyed by young and “not-so-young” alike.
After we were stuffed from the best chef  at Fudpucker, Larry Murphy, and experienced a “red carpet welcoming hospitality” by personnel Keith Thornsberrry, Christian Obey and staff, we were in for an adventure. We went down to meet my girlfriend ” Pearl”! The family and I were so excited to see a 5 foot 3 inch albino alligator up close, which is one of only 50 Albino alligators in the United. Since it’s hibernation season, Pearl was really nice, didn’t move too much and will let you peek close at her both above and under the water line. Her home is a nice sized tank in the educational museum downstairs. The Exhibit Guide and Gator Handler Tyler who was from Hoover, Alabama, enlightened us on the differences between alligator and crocodiles and also took a photo of the family holding a live alligator named Marshmalow. She was so cold, but friendly. They also specialize in Teen Night, is equipped with an arcade and  t-shirt and souvenir shop that was very reasonable. By the way, there’s a photo of  NBA Star Dewayne Wade with his kids holding an alligator; unfortunately Mr. Wade only deals with stuffed animals. I don’t blame him!
In a nutshell, I would recommend Fudpucker’s over and over again. I felt Fud-Tastic! As the saying goes “Ya ain’t been pucked, till ya been fudpucked!”
On Saturday we had breakfast in Sandestin resort  at “Another Broken Egg” which overlooks the stunning Choctawhatchee Bay. Another Broken Egg serves breakfast, lunch and dinner all day long. In 1998, Sandestin Resort was purchased by Intrawest, one of North America’s leading developers and operators of four season village resorts. The Intrawest development team proceeded to seek out “The Best of the Best” restaurants, galleries and retail shops to make the 400 million dollar Village of Baytowne Wharf development a unique and memorable vacation spot. During their visits to hundreds of restaurant concepts throughout the Nation, they came across (right in their own backyard) the Another Broken Egg in Destin, Florida. After three unannounced meals, they approached them with the opportunity to join their elite team of unique and prospering businesses. The results being a beautiful terraced waterfront Café with rich, hunger inspired colors of warm reds and yellows infused with splashes of French blue accents. Along with terrific views of the village and bridged waterways, a one of a kind 16’ long French country kitchen mural adorns one wall of the restaurant, inspiring a memorable breakfast, brunch and lunch dining experience. Unfortunately, we were not offered anything special on the menu and hospitality wasn’t the finest, however, the food was good. We went with our gut feeling and ordered. We had the silver dollar pancakes, belgian waffles with strawberries, salmon and grits, pancakes and the traditional breakfast. All was grand.
If you like to shop and your budget is either frugal or fun, explore the seaside by visiting the Merchants of Seaside / Seaside Central Square, a 15 to 20-minute drive from Sandestin; 121 Central Square, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459. This gorgeous “30A” locale boasts a Saturday morning farmers market surrounded by the Merchants of Seaside (a bevy of locally owned restaurants and shops) just steps from the sugar-white sand beaches across the street. The week that we visited kicked off the first weekend of holiday decorations and activities in Seaside’s central square. Don’t miss out on Sundog Books, Central Square Records and Modica Market, they were really nice places to enjoy. Another place for shopping or entertainment was the Grand Boulevard at Sandestin – located on Highway 98, stroll the shops while enjoying ice cream from Kilwin’s or stop in to the brand new movie theatre to catch the latest flick.
Later on that evening my babies and I visited The Village of Baytowne Wharf at Sandestin. This place should be given a beautification award and the Christmas decoration special of the year. Nothing says holidays quite like ice-skating, Santa Claus and Christmas lights! My kids enjoyed ice skating, arcades, zip lining, tower climb, sky trail, eurobungy, and strolling through the musical well-lit holiday festive village. Santa Claus arrived in a horse and carriage and there was even a holiday light show and beautiful fireworks as well as a live band in the middle of the Village that played Christmas songs. There were also a number of shops, bars and restaurants; one in particular was Graffitti. Enjoy your favorite Italian dishes with local flare at Graffiti as you listen to live music coming from across the restaurant at the Funky Blues Shack. Grafitti actually has a great family atmosphere. While visiting, we ate fried green tomatoes – which were to die for, Fetuccine Alfredo with grilled chicken, shrimp and scallop penne and grilled chicken and tossed salad.
Well it was time to leave so we travelled over to Seaside for lunch at “Bud and Alley’s which serves seafood, gumbos and the best trimatsu  in the city. Unfortunately, we came during their close of business for Christmas, which will re-open on December 26th. Founded in 1986 and named for a dog and cat, Bud & Alley’s has been a revered gathering place by loyal patrons for great food, great fun and Seaside’s finest sunsets for 25 years. South Walton’s longest established restaurant, Bud & Alley’s is nestled in the dunes overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. The restaurant has garnered numerous awards including Florida Trend Magazines Golden Spoon Award designating the eatery as one of the top 20 restaurants in Florida as well as receiving a five star designation from the Tallahassee Democrat and annually winning Wine Spectator Magazines Award of Excellence.
Overall, my trip was one to remember, one which I will visit again and one that I will always cherish. I would however, recommend that you visit Destin, gas up and go and get into  the Christmas spirit.
A special thanks to Sarah Sholtis of Wyndham Vacations who really make miracles happen.
                                                                                                                                                 Merry Christmas!
