Birmingham City Schools welcomed hundreds of teachers, administrators, and staff members back for the upcoming school year Friday during its annual Back to School Institute Friday.
As educators prepare to welcome students back tomorrow morning, district leaders celebrated significant academic and administrative gains while introducing new tools to assist families.
The district’s back-to-school prep rally focused on celebrating educators and ensuring staff are ready for the new term. The 2026-27 BCS All-City Marching Band also made its debut at Institute 2026.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Sullivan highlighted several achievements based on preliminary district data.
“We’re looking at some of our preliminary data and Hayes K-8 has made some gains on their test scores. Also, we reduced our F’s from 15 to 1 and reduced our chronic absenteeism from 49% to right around 11%. We are doing the right things for our children and the data and results are showing that,” Sullivan said.
