Congratulations Coreyé Agee

0

Coreye' AgeeThe 10-year-old, Fultondale Elementary student Coreyé Agee has made her family and friends proud once again. Coreyé Agee competed in her very first pageant on February 9. She competed in the 2014 Miss Pre – Teen Birmingham Pageant where she was judged on her personality, interviewing skills, modeling techniques, which included casual wear, and formal wear. The young sensation owned the stage as if she had been competing for years with a smile almost as big as her heart.
There were so many amazing girls but this petite diva was determined to let her own light shine.
During the competition, Coreyé was given two questions by the Emcee. The first question asked was, “If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?” Her response was,” I would go to Florida so I could represent my city and state in the National Miss Pre-Teen Competition. The second question asked was, “If you could relive one day, what day would it be and why?  Her response, “I would want to relive Sunday so I could praise the Lord and thank Him for one more day.” This 10-year-old’s blessing blew the crowd away, and it showed through their applause. After the judges deliberated, Coreye’ was announced 1st runner up in her division.
Coreyé’s parents, two brothers, two sisters and her gang of family members, and friends are extremely proud of her.
Coreyé started this journey because she wants to gain modeling and acting experience. She states her future goals are to become a successful Pediatrician.
We love you Coreyé and you ROCK!

Lil Boosie: Prison term of the 1,000 songs

0

Lil BoosieBy Associated Press
NEW ORLEANS — Rapper Lil Boosie says serving time in a Louisiana prison on drug charges was life changing, has made him a better person and ultimately, he hopes, a better artist.
“I feel like I’ve got more stories to tell,” Lil Boosie said during a press event Monday in New Orleans. “I’ve got a lot to say about my life, about what I went through in prison and about what my family went through.
“I’m a much better person. I’m much stronger. I know who my real friends are and I know who ain’t.”
Angela Yee, a radio personality on Power 105.1 in New York, moderated the rapper’s first public interview since being released last week from Louisiana’s maximum security prison at Angola. Rappers Bun B, Young Jeezy and Webbie were there to show support as well as members of his family and legal team.
“This is a big day for Trill Entertainment and a big day for the hip-hop community,” said Houston native Bun B, the independent label’s chief executive who came off tour to support Boosie’s homecoming.
Bun B said Boosie and Webbie were the first artists Trill Entertainment signed.
“He took off with flying colors and went above and beyond what we expected,” he said of Boosie. “We couldn’t be more proud of him.”
Boosie, whose real name is Torence Hatch, said the first thing he did following his release was reconnect with his seven children. “I’m still enjoying the moment, enjoying my family you know? I’m just soaking in time with the kids and the studio.”
He said he’s been spending as much time as possible in the studio — good news for Trill Entertainment and distributor Atlantic records. While imprisoned following a 2009 drug conviction, Hatch said he wrote 1,018 songs.
“I was focused on my music,” he said when asked about life behind bars. “I didn’t spend too much time seeing what other (rappers) were doing. But of what I’ve heard over the last few days, I feel the rap game is wide open for me to take over.

“Man, I’ve been in the studio almost every night. When I have any free time, that’s where you can find me.”
The rapper told The Associated Press that he sees possible collaborations in his future with Justin Beiber, Drake, Lil Wayne and Mary J. Blige.
“I’m fixing to go hard,” he said.
He said his new music will reflect some of the experiences he went through in prison, including spending 20 months on lockdown for 23 hours and 45 minutes each day. “You’ll hear more about that and other things in the music,” he said. “The music will speak for me.”
He also said he wrote a screenplay that he hopes to bring to theater audiences soon and a book about his life. He said he’s considering self-financing both ventures but will shop them around, too.
In addition, he hopes to tour soon, possibly as early as the end of March. He said his fans never heard him perform music from “Super Bad: The Return of Boosie Bad Azz,” which he released a couple of weeks before he went to prison.
The 31-year-old rapper, who is from Baton Rouge, could be on probation for up to four years. He has a Thursday hearing scheduled before a state judge, said Roy Maughan, an attorney representing Trill Entertainment.
“It’s a routine appearance. There was no offense committed and there are no charges hanging over his head,” he stressed. “It’s just an opportunity for the judge to put eyes on him and for both sides to tailor some type of probation conditions.”

Source Claims Joe Jackson is Brandon Howard’s Father NOT Michael Jackson

brandon-howard-joe-jacksonBy EURweb.com

Is Papa Joe really Brandon Howard’s daddy?
Organizers of a DNA test claimed on Thursday to have proven that Michael Jackson is the biological father of Howard, a claim that TMZ has called into question because details surrounding the testing were suspect.
In today’s development, the New York Daily News is citing an unnamed source who claims that Jackson patriarch Joe Jackson is actually the father of Brandon Howard…and Michael is his half-brother.
“I’ve been hearing for years that Brandon is Joe’s son,” the source said.
Confusing the issue more is that singer Augie Johnson has declared that he is Howard’s real father, the International Business Times reported. Augie, 65, was a backup singer on Michael Jackson’s 1979 album, “Off The Wall.”
His mother, 53-year-old pop singer Miki Howard, was reportedly repped by Jackson family patriarch Joe Jackson in the 1980s. She also appeared in the 1993 movie “Poetic Justice” with Janet Jackson.
As previously reported, the genetic mystery reached a bizarre peak at a press conference in Beverly Hills on Thursday that was organized by shipping heir Alki David and streamed live on his FilmOn.com website. Brandon Howard wasn’t present for the hyped announcement but confirmed in a Facebook post that he gave a DNA sample for the test.
Dr. Joseph Goodman, a Beverly Hills dental surgeon, revealed the results, and claimed he obtained a sample of Michael Jackson’s DNA from a dental device that had belonged to the “Thriller” singer. He purchased the device at auction.
Goodman pulled a piece of paper from an envelope and said the test showed the “probability” of the King of Pop being a parental match was “99.9 percent.”
“I think we have the proof,” Goodman declared.
Despite Goodman’s claim, the paperwork did not include the names of the test subjects or the name of a testing lab, but David told viewers such tests are typically done anonymously and that other information was redacted as a security safeguard.
“I’m sure that there will be doubters and there will be haters and there will be those who create, build a controversy, but it is what it is,” David said.
Jackson estate lawyer Howard Weitzman didn’t see things that way, however.
“It sounds like a fraud to me,” Weitzman told the Daily News later Thursday.
Former child actor Corey Feldman, who was pals with Michael Jackson during his moonwalking heyday, attended David’s press conference and told The News he believes The Gloved One is the father.
“Personally, I do, because I’ve never met two people who were more alike in my life,” Feldman, 42, said.

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
Brooke had a difficult time assimilating the news that Ridge and Katie gave her. Aly turned to Pam for information on Wyatt and Quinn. At a Forrester Creations meeting, Wyatt pitched a unique jewelry line collection to the team. Everyone but Aly seemed to like Wyatt’s concept. Wyatt vehemently defended himself and his mother’s art to Aly. Everyone looked to Eric to decide whether or not to proceed with the line. Katie defended herself to Brooke who accused Katie and Ridge of having an ulterior motive: revenge. During the team meeting at Forrester, Eric became annoyed at Aly as she continued to try to prove her point about Wyatt and Quinn. Pam stuck up for Aly. When Quinn continued to stir the pot, Eric played mediator between she and Aly. Rick and Caroline got romantic in the steam room. Wyatt asked Hope to make a giant move forward in their relationship. Aly tricked Charlie into telling her the truth about the diamond heist. Not realizing what he’s done, Charlie believed that Pam told Aly something that they promised they would never tell. Wyatt attempted to convince Quinn that if this new collection was displayed right, they would win over all of their current office adversaries. Quinn shared that she’s worried that Aly would be their downfall. Aly was surprised by Hope’s reaction when she revealed a secret about Wyatt.  Donna was shocked when Brooke confided in her about Katie and Ridge. Liam faced off with Wyatt and Quinn and accused them of being two-faced. Pam revealed to Charlie that she wasn’t the one who spilled the beans about the diamond heist. Aly was stunned when Hope told her not to call the police and that she already knew about Wyatt’s role in the diamond heist. On the Forrester office bridge, Aly and Quinn got into a heated argument, which soon turned physical on the Forrester office bridge. Ridge and Katie discussed their future together as Brooke prepared to win Ridge back into her life. Eric received upsetting information during an important meeting.
THIS WEEK: Brooke makes a promise to Ridge. Quinn finds Aly and cautions her to stay away from Hope and Wyatt.

GENERAL HOSPITAL
Carly confronted Sonny and made a demand from him. When Anna had questions for Morgan about AJ’s shooting, Morgan had his own opinion about the guilty person. A reluctant Duke admitted to Anna information about one of the shooting suspects. Ric thanked Alexis for sending work his way, but she became livid when she found out his plans for Molly. Luke’s uncharacteristic behavior created an awkward moment with Monica. While he continued to piece together what happened the night AJ was shot, Michael was taken aback when new information came his way. Meanwhile, Julian and Ric appeared to have a mysterious involvement with one another. Alexis and Molly battled it out over her living arrangements. Felix was blindsided when he saw Lucas and Brad together. Sonny perceived how worried Michael was about AJ’s condition and tried to comfort him. Julian issued a stern warning to Carlos. Britt told her mother she was engaged to Nikolas but wondered if Obrecht will reveal her secret. Silas told Kiki the details about what happened to him in NYC unaware that someone was eavesdropping on their conversation.  Ric had an offer for Liz that put Nikolas on edge. Emma asked Patrick a difficult question regarding Robin, which left Patrick more frustrated than ever.  Monica enlisted Patrick’s help in the effort to save AJ. Sabrina got information that may fill in some blanks about Carlos’s recent activities. Lulu dreamed Ben was her son but kept it to herself.  Spencer had a plan to woo Emma. Luke’s continuing out-of-character behavior affected Kiki.  While a threat lurked in AJ’s room, an unaware Patrick informed Michael and Monica of AJ’s medical options. THIS WEEK: Morgan finds Kiki in an unexpected predicament. Shawn has a startling encounter.

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
Billy told Jack that he hopes that his marriage isn’t damaged beyond repair. Meanwhile, Abby ran into Stitch and tried to play matchmaker for him and Ashley. Stitch asked how Ashley has been doing, and later Abby learned that Stitch’s going through a divorce. Later, Victoria ran into Stitch at the hospital, and she told him that Billy knows she kissed someone. Later, Billy warned Stitch to stay away from his wife. Nick told Noah about how Victor kept Adam’s secret about the hit and run and how that ultimately set things in motion that led to his demise. Sharon saw them talking and Nick invited her to stay for lunch. Noah left as Nick and Sharon enjoy the time alone. Later they headed home, and the sexual tension was almost too much for them to handle. Meanwhile, the Cassie imposter went to see Victor and told him he’ll have to find someone new to spy on Sharon.  When the Cassie imposter told him that she doesn’t think she can get Sharon to reveal her secret, Victor reminded her that he’s paying her a lot of money and trusts that she’ll find a way. Later, the Cassie imposter broke into Sharon’s house again. Chelsea got angry that Victor doesn’t think Adam could be alive and accused him of even hoping that Adam’s dead. Abby told Jack that she’s glad that Victoria and Billy are going to work things out despite Kelly’s involvement. Later, Jack called Kelly and asked her to meet him for lunch. Meanwhile, Lily found out that Kelly has left her job at the foundation because of Billy. Lily knew that Kelly had been through a lot and she told her that she would help her figure out her next move. Later, Kelly thanked Jack for inviting her to lunch. Jack knew that Billy and Victoria could get through this, and he knows Kelly’s road’s tough but she could move forward. Dylan tried to break up a heated confrontation between Stitch and Billy. Stitch told Billy to fix his marriage. Leslie and Neil bumped into each other for the first time since their break-up. They stood their ground on their opposing viewpoints regarding marriage.  While Neil didn’t think they could be friends, Leslie insisted that she doesn’t want to lose Neil from her life. Michael gave Chloe and Kevin the good news that the judge accepted her guilty plea, and she could do outpatient therapy, but she has to be in the custody of someone who will take legal responsibility for her. Michael warned Kevin that Chloe doesn’t feel the same way about him that he does about her. Nikki brought Paul lunch at the police station and thanked him for all his help. Christine arrived also having brought Paul lunch.
THIS WEEK: Nikki leaves as Paul tries to reassure Christine that Nikki’s gesture was nothing more than a thank you. Victor isn’t thrilled when the Cassie imposter shows up at his office.

“Saint Monkey” by Jacinda Townsend

Saint Monkey“Saint Monkey” by Jacinda Townsend
c.2014, W.W. Norton            $24.95 / $26.50 Canada          352 pages

The first time you saw her, it was all you could do to resist touching her curls.
They were perfect, just like her fingers and her apple-dumpling cheeks. Her eyes drew you in, begging you to love her – and you did.
She was the most beautiful doll you’d ever seen. And she was property of your best friend, who wouldn’t let you touch her.
Do we ever outgrow wanting what someone else has?  Or, as in the new novel “Saint Monkey” by Jacinda Townsend, do we instead learn that those things are as tarnished as our own?
Fourteen-year-old Pookie never did like Audrey much.
They were only friends because Pookie’s bad teeth and Audrey’s braininess meant that nobody else would play with them. Eventually, they just had one another, their friendship sealed over baptism in front of God and old ladies who “got happy.”
At fourteen years old, Audrey liked to read. She also liked to sit on her porch swing on Queen Street and watch Pookie’s daddy come home every night. Three years before, Audrey’s father went to Korea and never came back. She sometimes pretended that Sonnyboy was really her daddy.
Or, she did – until Sonnyboy murdered Pookie’s Mama.
And that right there, it changed a lot of things. Pookie started using her given name – Caroline – and she started messing with boys. She’d always said she was going to Hollywood, and Audrey believed her. The funny thing was that Audrey was the first to leave Mt. Sterling, when a man heard her playing piano for a funeral and offered her a job in Harlem.
Leaving her Mama and Grandpap was hard, but Harlem was a dream come true for Audrey. She missed Caroline, too, but they’d had disagreements before she left, and Audrey was sure the friendship was too damaged to continue.
Still, Audrey wrote letters back home, telling Caroline about life in New York, meeting a special man, fame, and about Harlem through the eyes of a country girl. But to Caroline, it all seemed to be bragging. She always knew that Audrey thought she was better than everybody else.
What did she ever see in that girl, anyhow?
Reading “Saint Monkey” is as painful and irresistible as the friendship that forms this novels’ core.
Written in two distinct voices, this is the story of a love-hate relationship between two friends who grow together and grow apart, but can’t seem to let go of either. It’s the story of moving on, while aching for your roots; and of treading water while wondering what’s beyond the boundaries of your town. And for those reasons, sticking with the theme of this novel, it’s easy to both love and hate author Jacinda Townsend’s utterly compelling characters: Audrey, for her preoccupied properness, and Caroline for hiding her hurt behind sarcastic sass.
This is not a whip-through-it-quick novel. No, this one demands that you sink into the pages and take some time.  And if you’ve got that, then “Saint Monkey” is surely a book to curl up with.

MUSICAL NOTES

Musical NotesBy Esther Callens

The chart topping recording group Parmalee has made quite a pleasing impression on Country music fans and critics. With the release of their debut title, Feels Like Carolina, they have proven that they know how to produce some mighty good tunes. It is outstanding!
Parmalee has a sound genus that exceptional. The guitar riffs and percussion on most tracks are definitely rock tinged while the lyrics and melodies are pure Country. At any rate whatever it may be called – it is certainly fantastic music.

An absolutely, mesmerizing read is found in Red Now and Laters.  This exceptionally titled debut novel is written by the masterful storyteller, Marcus J. Guillory. Staging a rich coming of age tale that’s nothing short of extraordinary, Red Now And Laters is destined to top best seller lists.
It is in Houston, Texas during the late seventies when John Paul Boudreaux, Jr. (aka Ti John) begins to realize that life is full of mysteries.  Born in a Black Creole family, his mother is a devout Catholic who tries ardently to protect her son’s innocence (he cannot play with the neighborhood “hoodlums”).  His father is a famous rodeo star who teaches Ti John about people and life. Although he is a normal young boy with the average penchant for action figures and red Now and Later, there is something that he’s privy to that other children his age aren’t. Ti John possesses a gift – a mystery his father is yet unwilling to speak upon.
Ti John’s father is a practitioner of voodoo. He is often visited by a deceased ancestor named Jules Saint-Pierre “Nonc” Sonnier.  Ti John finds that he has inherited his father’s talent. Nonc Sonnier visits him as well. In the midst of growing into a teen while trying to balance his family and friends’ expectations, Ti John finds that life is about choices – good or bad – the decision is up to him to make. The question is, will he survive his chosen option?
Guillory has penned an impressive work of fiction. It incorporates life, death, humor, despair, love, hate, enchantment – all the emotions that are first experienced during that pivotal time of growth. His colorful, multifaceted yet unpretentious, characters are perfect. Guillory is a brilliant talent.
Marcus J. Guillory’s numerous short stories have appeared in Outcry, Dogmatika and other magazines.  He has also produced reality TV shows for E! Network, TRU TV, MTV and others. He also wrote the film Karma, Confessions & Holi. He resides in Los Angeles.

RoderickRoyal BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Roderick Royal, former Birmingham City Council president, will officially kick off his campaign for the Jefferson County Commission, District 1, on Thursday March 13, at 5:30 p.m. in the Green Room of the Phoenix Building, 1710 Second Ave. North. He will share his vision for the region and reveal the campaign’s WIN Plan, which stands for Winning Initiatives.
“It has been my pleasure to serve the people of the City of Birmingham over the last 12 years as a Councillor and former interim mayor,’’ said Royal. “If elected, I look forward to serving the citizens of District 1 by improving the county’s tax base, putting people back to work and addressing other county matters. This is only one portion in our WIN Plan.’’
“Today, we have the opportunity to render strong leadership and offer keen administrative skills to the residents of our county. I believe that my experience as a go-to-guy at the city will serve our residents well at this time of tight budgets, low tax revenue, a smaller workforce and increased user fees.’’
As a council member, Royal led an $11 million street resurfacing project of 100 miles, which was Birmingham’s largest street resurfacing effort. He also implemented a citywide drug prescription plan for senior citizens and a breakfast bar program for third graders in select Birmingham elementary schools.
Royal works in consumer banking and is a college instructor. He’s a former Fairfield police officer and holds political science and public administration degrees from Tuskegee University and Webster University. He is married with three children.
