Nutrition Honors at BAM (Birmingham Area Metro) Monthly Meeting

0

On 3rd Sunday, February 16, at First Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Fairfield, (the host church), the monthly BAM (Birmingham Area Metro) Meeting was held beginning at 10:00 a.m. I presented the Nutrition Education Class to the Pathfinders, which included several topics relating to Nutrition, Nutrients, Exercise, etc.
All of the children participated in structured, fun exercise – like jump rope, and hot potato (using a beach ball).  I always enjoy working with children and helping them to reach their potential to be healthier. I have just as much fun as the kids teaching them the importance of healthy eating and exercise to defeat the disease of obesity. Nutrition is as much a part of me as breathing every day.
At the end of the Nutrition Honors Class, I gave several students, along with the staff, ingredients for healthy snacks that they made for everyone to enjoy.
I enjoyed the festivities of the day!!!! The children learned a lot and earned honors. I thank God for a blessed BAM Monthly Meeting.

FROM THE BIBLE The Shepherd Psalm

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and i will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world an, and they that dwell therein.
For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.
Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?
He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob.
Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this king of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of Glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory.
Unto thee O LORD, do I lift up my soul.
O my God,  I trust in thee; let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.

Encouraging Parents to Do More With Less

0

Encour(NAPSA) – A growing number of parents are creating their own approaches to parenthood- approaches that are authentic, simple, healthy. Most importantly, they’re approaches that work for their own families.
To inspire families to do more with less, a well-known brand of children’s medicine is launching the “Say Yes to Less” campaign to benefit Make-A-Wish®.
The Little Remedies® brand, marketed by Medtech Products, Inc., is asking consumers to log on to www.SayYes2Less.com to take a 30-day pledge to “Say Yes to Less” and eliminate the things their children don’t need. Instead, they’re encouraged to focus on the small things that can make a big difference in their children’s lives.
For example, families can pledge that they will do things such as eat less sugar or create less waste. In return, Little Remedies® will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish® for each of the first 100,000 people who take the pledge to “Say Yes to Less.”
New Teammates
To help draw attention to the campaign, Little Remedies® has teamed up with actresses and celebrity moms Tia Mowry-Hardrict and Tamera Mowry-Housley to have them serve as the official spokespersons for the pledge.
Tia and Tamera are passionate about taking a wholesome approach to raising their kids. They will appear in a series of videos featuring families that personify the Little Remedies® philosophy, “Everything They Need, Nothing They Don’t.” These families have committed to eliminating wastefulness from their lives.
To encourage consumers to follow through on their “Say Yes to Less” pledge, the pledge website, www.SayYes2Less.com, was created for parents to “check in” each day for 30 days to confirm that they are following through with their pledges.
After a key number of check-ins, consumers will be rewarded for their efforts with badges that are seen on their pledge page and high-value coupons for Little Remedies® products. Additionally, a grand-prize winner will be selected, who will receive a $2,500 college education account to help create a positive future for his or her child.
Created By a Parent
The Little Remedies® line of children’s over-the-counter health care products was created by a father and pharmacist who grew tired of searching for products for his children that were effective, but also made with ingredients he could feel good about – that means no artificial flavors, artificial colors, alcohol, saccharin or dyes.

For more information on Little Remedies® and the full line of products, visit www.LittleRemedies.com. To learn more about Make-A-Wish®, visit www.wish.org.

A new campaign is encouraging parents to do more with less and eliminate excess from their children’s lives.

Where is Your Greatness? (Part 2)

Electra Adams   In today’s church world the buzz phrase is “discovering who you are and your purpose here on earth.” The intensity  of this statement alone says that there are expectations of the life of every individual. Roman’s 8:19…For the earnest expectation of the creature waits for the manifestation of the sons of God. (22)…For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now.  Some have declared that the world has gone crazy. Has the world gone crazy or is it exemplifying a void? What we are witnessing in the world, however it is defined, is not an issue of insanity, but a void of godly morals, values and guidance. There is such a void of mature, loving people who know their purpose in life, and who manifest this purpose gracefully. There are hundreds, and perhaps, thousands of churches in America. God has designed the local assembly as a type of base, inasmuch as we are a type of extension from a greater body throughout the world. We are born again into a family of believers. As we mature and develop into our Father’s character, at some point we should all look like Him in the Spirit! The scripture says that it does not yet appear what we should be, but when He does appear, we shall be just like Him. The Father Himself is a Great God.  We should all be known as His by the Holy Spirit dwelling within.
There is so much that could  be said about the church and what appears to be a severely dysfunctional entity; nevertheless, our focus today is on the growth and development of every member in particular. I believe every member is given gifts, callings and graces  to become a blessing to some, somebody’s opened door or somebody’s miracle. We cannot afford to walk in darkness, or ignorance of ourselves, or, The One Who Sent Us. How great is the Light in you?  If we say we have fellowship with Him and we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But, if we walk in the Light, as He is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin (1 Jn 1:6-7).
People who are truly changed and converted grieve at their sin, because our inward man (the Holy Spirit) hates sin. Those who love Him prefer the Light of Jesus Christ. They desire to walk in integrity and righteousness, that they do not put Him to death daily. Anyone who is habitually and unrepentantly living in sin, who deny that they are sinners (I Jn 1:8-10) are not genuinely converted. No one who keeps on sinning has either seen Him or known Him. (I John 3:5)
Let us seek to know Him, The God of the pages; in doing so, we position ourselves to know one another according to the Spirit!
Until another day!

How To Know a Christian When You See One

0

Dr. Victor Baugh“The fruit of the Spirit is . . .” (Galatians 5:22).

“How can you tell when someone’s a real Christian?” the young boy asked his mother. “Well Son, we can’t go around judging people,” she said, “but we can be fruit inspectors.” She went on to explain how different trees bear different fruit – peach trees produce peaches, apple trees produce apples, and lemon trees produce lemons. If we want to know what kind of tree a tree is, we can find out by looking at the fruit it bears.
The Bible tells us that the same thing is true of people. People who are Christians bear Christian fruit. The fruit is listed in the book of Galatians. Not surprisingly, the first fruit mentioned is love, and it is no accident that it is first. Love is what it is all about. God set the example for us. He loved the world (all of us) so much that He gave His Son for us. Jesus loved us so much that He gave His life for us. We are taught that the greatest of all commandments are these two: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind,” (Matthew 22:37, 39) and “Love your neighbor (anyone and everyone) as yourself.” If we do those two things, everything else will take care of itself.
Real love shows. If we are wondering if someone is a Christian, we need to look at his or her love fruit. While we are at it, let’s take a good look at our own. How are we showing God’s love?

Overcoming the Temptations of the Flesh
By Rev. Joseph R. Reid

A lion was captured and placed in a large yard surrounded by a high fence. He soon became acquainted with the social life of the other lions that had been there a long time. The lions had divided themselves into several clubs: political, religious, and others, each with their own activities, philosophies, dogmas, scriptures, and ideologies. One group met regularly to hate and slander the captors, which was their whole activity – as if just by hating and slandering the captors something was going to happen. Another group met to sing about a future jungle having no fences. And a third group met to secretly plan violence against the other groups. Those were the conspirators; they were not so much against the captors as they were against the other groups of lions.
Each club tried to pressure the newcomer into joining, but something held him back. His hesitation was caused by observing one particular lion who kept to himself, and who seemed always to be in deep thought and meditation. And this lion used to be alone, a loner. He attracted the newcomer. He had some quality of magnetism around him: a certain power, a certain magic. The newcomer shyly approached the solitary lion and requested an explanation of his apartness. ‘Join nothing!’ replied the lion.’ These foolish creatures do everything but what is necessary. I am doing what is essential, so one day I will be out of here. You are welcome to all the facts I have uncovered.’ ‘But what is this necessary thing that you are doing?’ asked the newcomer. ‘Listen carefully,’ said the loner.’ ‘I am studying the nature of the fence. That is the only essential thing to do in life: to understand the nature of the fence.’
What are the fences or boundaries in your life? What are the temptations?
I recently did a self- inventory and found that as much as I would like to think I have no vices or problems, it is not the case. I still struggle with issues of money. I still want to feel important. I like having and using power. There are still things I am addicted to. I like to eat, sleep and do what I want, when I want. I can still be selfish, self-centered and egoistical. I still have problems from time to time in personal relationships. Like Jesus I want the cup of my imperfections to pass. I am not alone. The problem I see is many of us spend most of our lives chasing rainbows, acquiring stuff and addicted to things that create misery for us, yet we have difficulties overcoming them.
Like the proverbial thorn in the flesh, spoken by the apostle Paul in describing his trouble, overcoming the temptations of the flesh can be our biggest problem. Paul said, “I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil  lies close at hand” Romans 7: 21. There are a thousand temptations of the flesh and as fulfilling as they may seem, none of them nourishes the soul and contributes to eternal life.
I have found two ways of overcoming the temptations of the flesh.
First we need to follow the mandate of Jesus as He faced His greatest temptation, the desire to live as a human instead of dying on the cross. He faced that temptation through prayer but before He prayed He asked His three closest disciples to be with Him in His darkest hour. They failed Jesus. The scripture says, “Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit here while I go over there and pray.’” What did He mean, “Go over there and pray?” He meant He was going into His secret closet, that place where He could meet God in private. He wanted His fellow humans to be with Him. They fell asleep. “And he said to Peter, “So, could you not stay awake with me one hour? He said, “Stay awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial or Temptation. Here is the first way of overcoming the temptations of the flesh, he says, “Stay awake that you may not come into the temptations of the flesh.” Be aware, alert, and watchful! Wake Up! Many of us are asleep even now when we should be alert to the temptations of the flesh that causes us to ignore what is important to our soul salvation. How do we wake up? We wake up through a consistent practice of meditation.
Second, He said, “pray!” Pray that you are not overcome by the temptations of the flesh. In the case of the disciples it was sleep but it could have been anything that takes us away from serving and loving the Lord with all our heart, soul and mind.
It adds up to this, we must stay awake to the temptations of the flesh that lead us away from the Lord. We must pray without ceasing, alone in secret that we not come into the trials or temptations that take us away from our readiness to love unconditionally, serve without expectation of gain and to die if necessary in Jesus’ name. As Jesus said, “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

DIPLOMACY
Diplomacy is a wonderful skill, and why do I say that, because it takes skill to negotiate.  Many wars, no doubt, could have been voided, as well as many lives may not have been maimed, if someone or person or nations had the ability to negotiate.  When there is a situation whereas there seems to be no alternative but to take drastic actions, there is a need for a call to put in action some type of agreement.  The most intelligent thing to do is for someone to say let us talk.
Many Christians are in a dilemma today in regards to their salvation.  Many are listening to too many voices coming from a volume of mixed messages.  How will you settle the conglomeration of information resounding in your mind?  Will you call in a delegation to discuss the matter, or will you contact one of the informers and negotiate the matter?  If so, this is where diplomacy enters in, and if you are not skilled to handle the information, you will no doubt make the wrong decision.
God said to His people in Isaiah 43:26, Come let us reason together.  Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be white as snow, though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool; if you be willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land, but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword. [Isaiah 1:18-20]
God gave Israel a diplomatic answer.  Are you ready to negotiate with the Lord?  HE WILL ANSWER!
