Real Life Superhero? Jamie Foxx Helps Save Accident Victim Outside His Home

You may remember some years ago that Tom Cruise helped someone who was in an accident in L.A. (and then did it again years later.) Now his Collateral co-star Jamie Foxx has done the same thing. Multiple reports say that Foxx, in photos of the crash captured by the Facebook group Safety For Citizens, a community crime prevention group in the area, helped a car accident victim outside his Hidden Hills, California home.
Safety for Citizens post reads:
This time it’s not acting for the camera, but the outcome is the same, right on point.
8:39pm, CHP and Ventura County Fire responded to Potrero and Hidden Valley in Westlake for an overturned vehicle on fire. Potrero was shut down in both directions.
The accident occurred on the roadway in front of Jamie Foxx’s residence gate. The following are some of the statements according to what Jamie Foxx told CHP as witnessed by myself.
Jamie told CHP that he heard the accident and also a person screaming from the overturned vehicle. Jamie also made a 911 call. Jamie said he was able to reach into the vehicle, grab the person, and drag them away to safety.
The person was transported from the scene with what CHP has declared are major injuries. Another person on scene said the person had suffered severe facial burns. Wish the victim the best for a speedy and healthy recovery.
Well, all right Jamie Foxx! He may be showing off similar heroism in his next big movie Robin Hood: Origins,in pre-production now.
Idris Elba: Lack Of Diversity Is Not Just A US Problem
LONDON (AP) — A lack of diversity in films and television is not just an American problem, according to actor Idris Elba.
Hollywood’s Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is facing boycott calls and promising change after nominating an all-white roster of performers for the Oscars for the second year running.
Elba, the London-born star of “The Wire” and “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” told an audience at Parliament that Britain was successful, diverse and multicultural — but “you wouldn’t know it if you turned on the TV.”
In a speech Monday, Elba said British broadcasting needed to overhaul the way it worked, asking questions such as: “Are black people normally playing petty criminals? Are women always the love interest or talking about men? Are gay people always stereotyped? Are disabled people ever seen at all?”
“Let’s just get more professional about this whole area,” Elba said. “Our economy depends on it. Our future actually depends on it.”
Critics have praised Elba’s performance turn as an African warlord in “Beasts of No Nation,” but he did not receive an Oscar nomination
US EMBASSY SAYS SEVERAL AMERICANS MISSING IN IRAQ
BAGHDAD (AP) — The U.S. Embassy confirmed Sunday that “several” Americans have gone missing in Iraq, after local media reported that three Americans had been kidnapped in the Iraqi capital.
U.S. Embassy spokesman Scott Bolz said, “We are working in full cooperation with Iraqi authorities to locate the missing Americans.”
Bolz did not identify the missing Americans or say what they were doing in Iraq.
State Department spokesman John Kirby said that “due to privacy considerations” he had nothing further to add about the missing Americans. “The safety and security of Americans abroad is our highest priority,” Kirby said.
The comments by U.S. officials came after the Arab news channel, al-Arabiya, citing its own sources, reported that three Americans had been kidnapped by militias in Baghdad.
Iraqi media reports said the Americans went missing in south Baghdad on their way to Baghdad International Airport. A Western security official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the media, said Sunday that he had been told that three Americans went missing 24 to 48 hours ago.
There were no immediate claims of responsibility. Kidnappings in Iraq have been carried out by the Islamic State group and Shiite militias as well as criminal gangs demanding ransom payments or disgruntled employees seeking to resolve workplace disputes.
The incident comes after a week that has seen a deterioration of security in and around the Iraqi capital after months of relative calm.
The Islamic State group claimed a number of attacks in Baghdad and neighboring Diyala province last week that killed more than 50 people, including a high profile attack on a mall in the Iraqi capital. The string of IS attacks on civilian targets within areas of Iraqi government control follow battlefield losses, most recently in western Iraq. Last month, Iraqi troops pushed IS fighters out of the center of Ramadi, the provincial capital of Anbar province in Iraq’s Sunni heartland.
In acts of apparent reprisal, armed gangs residents identified as Shiite militias, attacked Sunni owned businesses and mosques in Diyala province just north of Baghdad. After IS was pushed out of the province, security there was left almost entirely in the hands of Shiite militias.
Responding to a call to arms from Shiite clerics in Iraq after the Islamic State group swept across the country’s northern and western provinces in the summer of 2014, Shiite militias in Iraq now wield more power than the country’s regular security forces and military.

Lifting Up Christ to Uplift the Church and the Community

By: Brittany Young
At the end of each year, we all like to make new-year resolutions or goals that we hope to fulfill in the upcoming year, whether it be leading a healthier lifestyle, becoming more financially stable, traveling and reading more, dating or many other facets of life. However, it’s important for us to understand that Christ is the key that opens the door for our goals to manifest.
For this reason, Macedonia 17th St. Baptist Church Pastor Thomas Hunter has developed “Project Uplift” to encourage people of various ages, races and genders to strengthen their relationship and walk with Christ in 2016.
“We have the best product in the world in Jesus, but we’re not marketing Him correctly. We have to market Him through our lifestyles and testimonies, Hunter says. Project Uplift isn’t geared towards a particular demographic, but it’s for the NOW generation. The individuals who come from family structures that haven’t grown up in the church, or those that did grow up in the church but have grown frustrated with budgets, bulletins, and buildings and inconsistencies with church leaders.”
The project kicked off Sunday, Jan. 3 with an 8 a.m. service Pastor Hunter titled “Macedonia @ 8.” His plan is to continue the project with another 8 a.m. service Sunday, Jan.17, continuing this process the first and third Sundays of every month.
“I believe the NOW generation wants to come and hear some uplifting music and receive a word they can understand. God led me to start an 8 a.m. service so these individuals can come into an informal setting without any politics, where I’ll be on the floor ministering and not in the pulpit as I usually am during the 11 a.m. service. The sermons will focus on issues this generation is currently facing based on the word of God.”
Pastor Hunter adds that he encourages everyone to come no matter his or her background or physical appearance because he wants everybody to experience renewed and fresh blessings in 2016. The project’s supporting scripture comes from John 12:32: “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”
Macedonia 17th St. Baptist church is located at 1405 13th Ave. North in Birmingham, Ala. 35204.

NASCAR Announces 2016 K&N Pro Series Schedules
· East Returns To Stafford, Adds Dominion, Mobile & New Jersey
· Utah Doubleheader, Addition Of Orange Show Headline West
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series has become the preeminent development proving ground for the sport’s future stars.
The 27 races on the 2016 schedule – from New England to Southern California, and from Washington to Florida – provides a comprehensive slate of venues and events designed to test drivers and showcase the best and brightest for NASCAR fans.
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West schedules, announced today, comprise of 14 points races for each championship. It is highlighted by the annual meeting in the Heartland for the combination race at Iowa Speedway on July 29.
Both calendars include some of the best short tracks in the United States, as well as several companion events with NASCAR’s three national series, and three road-course races in each series.
In addition to returns to iconic staples of the East and West, both schedules feature some exciting new events for 2016: New Jersey Motorsports Park, Alabama’s Mobile International Speedway and Virginia’s Dominion Raceway in the East, and West’s first trip to California’s Orange Show Speedway in more than 30 years.
The West slate also features the return of Douglas County Speedway in Oregon, as well as the first doubleheader weekend in series’ modern history with a pair of September races at Utah Motorsports Campus, formerly Miller Motorsports Park. The East celebrates the return to Connecticut’s historic Stafford Motor Speedway for the first time since 2008.
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will race at 13 different tracks in 12 states. Highlights of the 2016 schedule include:
• The championship season will kick off once again at Florida’s high-banked New Smyrna Speedway on Sunday, Feb. 14, and the champion will be crowned at The Monster Mile, Dover International Speedway, on Friday, Sept. 30.
• The series will be the centerpiece of the inaugural season of the brand-new Dominion Raceway, a .4-mile oval 25 minutes south of Fredericksburg, Virginia with a trip on Memorial Day (Monday, May 30).
• New Jersey will join New York’s Watkins Glen International and VIRginia International Raceway to give the schedule a trio of road-course venues.
• Stafford was a staple of the series’ early years as the NASCAR Busch North Series with 29 races in 22 years, and will be the second trip to New England for the series along with New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
• The series will again race at two of NASCAR’s most venerable tracks with a pair of trips to South Carolina’s Greenville Pickens Speedway, and the July 2 event at Ohio’s Columbus Motor Speedway.
Highlights of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, which will race at 13 different tracks across eight states, include:
• The 2016 run will begin and end in California. The campaign will get underway in Southern California with a Saturday, March 19 race at Irwindale Speedway, just north of Los Angeles. And in a race that promises an electric atmosphere and fireworks before a traditionally sold-out crowd, the West will decide its champion on Saturday, Oct. 15, at All American Speedway, near Sacramento.
• In an unprecedented race weekend, the series will compete in two full championship races on Sept. 10-11 at Utah Motorsports Campus, the state-of-the-art road course 30 minutes southwest of Salt Lake City. The series ran at the track from 2007-2014 before it was closed temporarily last year. It is the first time the series will run back-to-back days since 1979, and first time since the series’ modern era began in 1971 that the two races in two days will be run at the same track.
• After successful inaugural events in 2015, Arizona’s Tucson Speedway and Idaho’s Meridian Speedway are again on the schedule and join series’ staples Kern County Raceway Park in California, Colorado National Speedway and Washington’s Evergreen Speedway.
• In addition to Utah’s two races, California’s Sonoma Raceway will be the third road course event as it hosts its 38th West race on the NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend in June.
• Orange Show Speedway, the quarter-mile oval in San Bernardino, California, has been in continuous operation since 1947. It held eight West races between 1968 and ’78.
In addition to Iowa, Watkins Glen, New Hampshire and Dover, companion events for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series feature East stops at Bristol Motor Speedway, as well as the annual West race at Sonoma. The 27 races that make up the NASCAR K&N Pro East and West calendar will be contested on 26 different weekends.
NASCAR K&N Pro Series television broadcast schedules on NBCSN will be announced at a later date.
ONE MAN’S OPINION
By
Jesse J. Lewis, Sr.
YES…We Can!
Birmingham is one of the greatest cities in America. The question should be can we make it greater? The answer is YES! We Can!
In order to make our city recognizable throughout the world, here is a laundry list of things we must do.
LAUNDRY LIST
1. We must understand that the Mayor can not function without the City Council, if we plan to move into the greatest.
The City Council can not function without the Mayor. The Mayor and the City Council, in order to reach our greatest, must have a ‘Come to Jesus’ meeting. In that meeting, all they have to say is, ‘We have to work together, for the good of the City.’
2. The conversation should start between the Mayor and President of the City Council. They should make a laundry list of things they need to do together for the entire year of 2016.
3. The next step for the Mayor and the City Council is to sit down together and listen to the suggestions that come from both the City Council and the Mayor. They should agree on which items to support that were recommended by both the Mayor and the City Council President.
4. Now, it’s time for the Mayor, his staff, City Council, their staff to go over all the issues that the Mayor and City Council have agreed upon. Making sure that the Mayor, his staff, members of the City Council, their staff will be on the same page of implementing what everyone has agreed upon.
5. All parties concerned should agree that they will meet quarterly, but the Mayor and the president of the City Council should have a conversation on a Wednesday or Thursday to discuss what should be on the agenda for the following Tuesday. If they are out of the city, they can do it by telephone.
6. The key point is that the city comes first, not the Mayor, not the City Council.
Cincinnati Father Investigated For Accidentally Shooting Son [VIDEO]
A parent’s worst nightmare has come true for one Ohio father.
Cincinnati.com reports:
“I just shot my son by accident,” a distraught father sobbed to a Cincinnati police 911 operator.
“Oh God. Get here quick.”
“Please hurry.”
The man, believing his 14-year-old son was at school, fatally shot the boy in the neck when he mistook him for an intruder at their East Price Hill home Tuesday morning.
Police say they are investigating the shooting.
The shooting at 1216 Blanchard Ave. occurred around 6:30 a.m. The father, whose name has not been released, had recently dropped his son, Georta Mack, off at the school bus stop but the teen returned home, police said.
After hearing a noise in the basement, the father grabbed a handgun to investigate. Georta startled the man, according to the frantic 911 call, and was accidentally shot in the neck.
Throughout the call Georta’s father begs police to hurry, asking God why this has happened. He tells police his son is struggling to breathe as he held a cloth to his neck to slow the bleeding.
Shortly after, he exclaimed that his son stopped breathing.
Georta was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Shortly after 8:15 a.m., the boy was pronounced dead at Children’s Hospital.
Police Lt. Steve Saunders says the father is being interviewed by police and has been cooperative.
Neighbors were seen crying as they shared the news of the shooting on snow-covered Blanchard Avenue hours later.
“He’s only 14 years old,” one woman said through tears.
Neighbors said Georta lived in the home with his 73-year-old father. They said the two seemed to get along well.
Angela Roberts, who has lived in the neighborhood in a friend’s home there for about a year, said Georta was a “good kid,” who would often mow her friend’s lawn and help with yard work.
“From everything I knew, he was a pretty good kid.”
Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac called the shooting a “terrible, terrible tragedy” at a press conference Tuesday. “It’s unimaginable really.”
Isaac said the father told police the teen returned home to skip school. Isaac said the teen had some recent trouble at school but did not elaborate.
Isaac said that while owning a gun is an individual choice, that gun owners should be responsible, prepared and well-trained. He also said the everyone in the home should be aware that guns are kept in the home.
Officers were discussing the case with the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s office. Isaac said he did not know if the father would be charged in the case.
